I'm actually not surprised. There was no reason for it to be so high in the weeks ahead of the election. The supply was there, oil was moving, nothing wrong with refining capability.
Someone put their thumb on the scale.
In 2028, 34 Senate seats will be up for election, 19 Republican, 15 Democrat.
That's brutal math for recapturing the Senate. These would be the races to press on:
Arizona Democrat incumbent
Georgia Democrat incumbent
Nevada Democrat incumbent
Pennsylvania Democrat incumbent
Wisconsin Republican incumbent
North Carolina Republican incumbent
Why those? They won somewhat narrow victories last time.
Also, the democrats can impeach Trump all day every day until 2029, but they cannot remove him. That requires 67 senators, and that's set by the Constitution. Nuking the filibuster won't get around that.
Endless impeachments on thin grounds would be politically stupid, and likely work against the Democrats in 2028.
As for SCOTUS, the Democrats *could* pack the court, but that would presently require nuking the filibuster to expand the court. That would be a dangerous precedent to set: they pack the court, then the first time the Republicans have a majority they can (unrestrained by the filibuster the Democrats nuked) pack it even more. Then it becomes a back and forth inflation of the bench.
That would break that branch of government. One would hope that the Democrats would have a moment of sanity.
Many are saying that this election result means the Democrats will add two states.
They would have to nuke the filibuster to do that. They might be willing to do that.
It's not guaranteed that Puerto Rico would break Democratic if a state. PNP has trended conservative.
Wild swings in the senate are possible...as we saw tonight. A senate +2 (or +4 worst case) from adding states is not insurmountable (hard, not impossible).
The house is capped at 435 seats. Adding states doesn't raise that cap, it just reapportions it. That can cut just as much against populous states like CA and NY.
Oh, and this would be having nuked the filibuster - if the public backlash against such a power grab is to elect Republicans, then a check on their power was removed - by the democrats.
I'd be most worried about court packing.
I kind of want to fall asleep and not wake up for a decade.
No, this is not doomerism about the election. I am recovering from shingles and I think it did nerve damage. The pain and itching Will. Not. Stop.
In which he presages violence if they lose.
...and also if they win.
Vote against this.
But oh gosh gas prices, so better vote for folks that will roll all this back...right?
THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD. The U.S. poverty rate just hit an all-of-history low. American households recorded their highest real median income in history.
It gets better. 975,000 new jobs were created JUST in August and September 2026, according to the latest household survey. That's nearly a million more Americans working in just two months.
And we're supposed to believe Trump's economy is a disaster?
Official child poverty fell to just 13.4 percent, its lowest recorded rate. And that's before we even talk about violent crime dropping to its lowest rate since 1900: that's a BIG quality of life improvement, especially for children in inner cities.
Trump changed the incentives for investment. His tax law made immediate expensing permanent for qualifying equipment. A business can deduct the full cost when it puts that equipment to work.
That makes buying better tools more attractive. Better tools let a worker produce more in the same hour. A company that can profitably expand hires MORE people, not less, and competing employers give those people more bargaining power and higher wages.
Your boss's ability to make money has everything to do with his ability to pay you more. Treat profits as an offense and you'll quickly lose the expansion, the hiring, and the raises those profits could finance.
That's why Barack Obama's "you didn't build that" economy hit just 1.6% annual GDP growth, while Trump's is clocking in at 3.4% and rising.
And the things those workers produce are how supply catches up with demand, and how eventually, prices fall. Like they do for televisions.
If Americans need more energy, produce more energy. If they need more goods, let companies build the factories that make them. Delaying a plant doesn't abolish demand for what it would produce. It sends the order somewhere else, and the job to Mexico or China.
A family paying too much for necessities needs more supply and higher earnings. How does it help that family by making American production harder?
But Trump tackled the bottom end too. No taxes on tips. No taxes on overtime (and there's a LOT of overtime coming as the expansion accelerates). And FINALLY, no taxes on almost everyone's Social Security benefits.
Government should serve everyone, from top to bottom. Trump's does.
Democrats want to campaign against corporate profits while workers need the jobs, investment, and productivity those profits make possible. They want to talk about "affordability" after printing money for four years and closing countless refineries that produce our gas.
@larry_kudlow calls this the greatest story never told. So go tell it. People have no idea. Because the Enemedia lies nonstop. They're just an arm of the Democrats' campaign.
Tell your friends what real income means. Explain why investment matters to their paychecks. Show them that more production is how we make the things they need more affordable.
And tell them the extraordinary progress we're making. It was never going to happen all at once. You wouldn't go to the gym and immediately look shredded.
But it's happening. Now.
Tell our story. Vote. Help your friends go vote. Put them in your car and take them.
And let Trump cook.
