In 2008, as medical students at OAU, Ile-Ife, Emmanuel Iduma and I kept talking about new Nigerian and African writing. By February 2009 that became the first issue of Saraba, with early work from Ayobami Adebayo, Elnathan John, Chika Unigwe and more. In 2019 I co-founded The Lagos Review, an online culture magazine, where I was music editor until 2023. In 2021 came Yaba Left Review (@YLReview), a paying literary journal for poetry and essays. I serve as its publisher, and it's now home to our Agbaman interview series. Building platforms for African writers has been as much a part of my life as writing itself.

I'm Dami Ajayi, a Nigerian poet and essayist living in London. I write about music, faith, memory and home, and I'll argue about Afrobeats and Nigerian music with anyone.
