10 years ago today I bought my first bitcoins. What a ride it's been. Looking forward to the next decade. Cheers to everyone in this space
August-September 2013. As I got more and more into Bitcoin, and being a poker player, I was pleased to find the Bitcoin poker site Seals With Clubs. I remember feeling excited about the concept of playing with Bitcoin. I also vividly remember already thinking that Bitcoin could go much higher in the future. Each pot won felt like a potentially huge win.
My usual buy-in was around 4 BTC, which was about $400 at the time (NLH 2/4). The problem was that there weren't many games running, and I eventually gave up trying to get them going. So all in all, I didn't play that much at Seals With Clubs, and I probably ended up pretty close to break-even.
But it's still a fun memory, especially when you think of pots bigger than 10 BTC going back and forth.

Going to make a series of posts from the early days of my Bitcoin adventure. Thought it might be fun for people who weren't part of it yet. The first will be the Cyprus crisis

Jan–Apr 2013: This is where I started dipping my toes. I remember being taken aback by the speed of the price movement. We had 13 green weekly candles in a row, culminating in a peak close to $266 on April 10. About a 20x move from $13 at the beginning of the rise. I couldn't believe the price action of this new thing I had bought. I just regretted not buying more.
The rally was helped along by the banking crisis in Cyprus. Banks were closed for nearly two weeks in March, and people realized that banking holidays are a thing. Bitcoin held in self-custody was, of course, unaffected by those closures. I remember this thesis gaining traction in forums at the time. We had something that was outside the banking system. It felt great.

Typically folks are paid in fiat so it necessarily starts that way. It should then be invested in Bitcoin.

Permanent comfort is not luxury. Luxury is to be able to alternate between comfort and discomfort at your will.
Most people invest with a numerator mindset: “I want yield 📈, dividends 💰, rent 🏠.”
But the problem isn’t the numerator — it’s the denominator.
Fiat = a ruler 📏 that increases every year.
Bitcoin = the ruler that stays fixed 🟧.
Fix the denominator, and everything else falls into place.
