I was watching a #WorldCup match and got more interested in the referee than the game itself. The way he handled a player arguing a call, calm, silent, unhurried, sent me straight back to one of the hardest days of my career as a principal. In my newest blog post, I write about a call I had to make in real time (ending an abusive phone call, then locking down my school), and about learning the difference between defending a decision and being willing to learn from it afterward. Leadership isn't about always being right in the moment. It's about knowing what guides you when the moment doesn't give you time to be sure. Make The Call: bit.ly/4b1cVfu

One of the highlights of Legislative Institute was representing Kansas at the SSWAA Delegate Assembly. It's an honor to help shape the future of our profession and ensure school social work is part of the national conversation. #SSWAA #DelegateAssembly

Legislative Institute reminded me advocacy doesn't end at the district level, it extends all the way to Capitol Hill. Grateful to learn from Advocacy Associate Anidra Ragin before meeting with members of Congress to advocate for student mental health. Every conversation matters.

Before our congressional visits, we had the opportunity to learn from the @NASW policy & advocacy team and SSWAA Advocacy Associate Anidra Ragin. Their insights helped prepare us to effectively advocate for school social work and the students we serve.

We met with members of Congress to discuss the importance of strengthening school mental health services and supporting legislation that expands access to school social workers and school counselors.

For years, I measured my commitment by how much I sacrificed. The longer the hours, the harder the grind, the more I believed I was proving something. Then one day, I took a walk at the end of my workday. And everything felt different. I've been sitting with a question lately that I wasn't expecting: What if I'm not falling behind? What if I've simply arrived somewhere? There's a difference between chasing a life and living one. I'm still learning to tell them apart. My latest reflection is here: bit.ly/4o0fm79 Let me know what you think.

Kansas schools are central to students’ lives in their early years. Today, I joined school counselors, psychologists, nurses, and social workers for School Mental Health Advocacy Day. Their work ensures Kansas students are supported and connected to resources they need to thrive.
