In August of last year, I heard @SecKennedy speak about Good Energy during a press conference. I ordered the book, dove in head first, and after 7 days, my daughter needed to come off her afternoon medication she was taking in attempt to manage bipolar disorder. This was the first improvement in 6 years! Then, one year ago today, we were watching the Nutrition Roundtable to see what more we could learn from @CaseyMeansMD on our family’s metabolic health journey. Little did we know, our lives were about to change forever. I think our whole world might have stopped for a minute when @ChrisPalmerMD spoke. We changed her diet to a ketogenic diet, and within days, she was an entirely new person in all of the best ways. This has been the best year of her life, and it’s been the best year for our family, too. She thanks me almost every single day, but today - it’s Dr. Palmer day in our house and she wanted to thank all of you herself! ❤️ So - we all thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

My fettuccine Alfredo got a metabolic makeover tonight. I swapped refined wheat pasta for cabbage ribbons and kept the rich, creamy Alfredo we love, and Genevieve even went back for seconds! When I’m putting recipes together, I’m not just thinking about how to make them delicious, I’m thinking about what nutrients they bring in and how they support the body systems. Cabbage, broccoli, onion & garlic: Sulfur compounds and antioxidants that support liver detox pathways and cellular protection. Egg yolks: Choline for liver and brain health, plus fats and nutrients for healthy cells. Bacon & hot Italian sausage: Complete protein, B vitamins, selenium and amino acids for energy and tissue repair. Tallow & bacon drippings: Energy, fatty acids and support for fat-soluble vitamin absorption. Pasta was our go to fall comfort food before starting metabolic therapies. The pasta in my previous recipe was the only thing I had to swap to keep this family favorite on the menu. Cabbage Fettuccine Alfredo with Bacon & Hot Italian Sausage Ingredients 2 large heads of cabbage, sliced into fettuccine-style ribbons 1 large onion, halved and thinly sliced 1 lb bacon 2 lbs hot Italian sausage, removed from casings 3 cloves garlic, grated Steamed broccoli, to taste 1 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano 12 egg yolks, blended Beef tallow, as needed Reserved bacon and sausage drippings Sea salt, to taste Directions 1. Cook bacon until crisp. Set aside and reserve the drippings. 2. Remove sausage from casings, brown in a large pot, then set aside. Reserve the drippings. 3. Add tallow to the pot. Add cabbage and onions, season with salt, cover and cook, stirring often, until softened but still slightly firm. The cabbage will release its own liquid. 4. Drain and reserve the cabbage liquid. Stir the grated garlic and reserved bacon and sausage drippings into the cabbage. 5. Fold in the bacon, browned sausage and steamed broccoli. 6. Remove from the heat. Stir in the Parmesan and blended egg yolks to create a velvety Alfredo sauce. Add reserved cabbage liquid as needed to thin.

A little recap of what’s been on the menu over the last couple of weeks! Quitting ultraprocessed foods is a task in itself. Figuring out what to eat when you stop doesn’t need to be. Switching to real whole foods doesn’t need to be complicated and it doesn’t need to mean that you’re making more than one meal for the family. The foundation this week was built from beef, butter, bacon, eggs, sausage, and salmon. Then we sprinkled in a little bit of sauerkraut, some microgreens, zucchini, spaghetti squash, homemade marinara, and a bit of parmigiano reggiano. We don’t all tolerate the same foods, but I can feed the whole house with one meal when I stick with a shared protein/fat combination and build around it. And most of the time, we just stick with the foundation where the most bioavailable forms of the nutrients we require to be happy and healthy are hanging out. 🥩 🧈 🥓 🍳

Mom’s meals on wheels spent early Sunday afternoon putting together a fresh spaghetti sauce with tomatoes, garlic, caramelized onions, fresh herbs, lots of ground beef, and roasting up some spaghetti squash to go with it. Then we packed it all up to go, hopped in the truck, and went and had dinner with our oldest. It’s midterm week for him, so I brought him a comfort meal from home and a bottle of MCT oil to keep that brain energy and focus tuned in for the week. ❤️

I’m going LIVE tomorrow with Nutrition Network! Tune in while we discuss how my journey into holistic nutrition and metabolic therapies all started. We’ll discuss my daughter’s remission from what was diagnosed as bipolar disorder, the challenges that come with changing the way we eat in our current food environment, and practical ways to get started. Mental health is deeply connected to what we are putting into our bodies every single day. Join us as we discuss this connection, how it changed my whole life, and how we can work together to empower others to get more curious about how what we are eating and feeding our families every single day could be impacting our physical and mental health.

It's the FINAL day of the Quit Sugar Summit Metabolic Psychiatry Summit, and what a lineup to end with: Dr. Chris Palmer Dr. David Perlmutter Prof. Zoltan Sarnyai Mimi Morgan Dr. Eline Dekeyster Rachel Frase Robert Sikes Chris DeLisle The work of @ChrisPalmerMD has shaped SO much of what I've learned on this journey. You don't want to miss this one! This week had been an incredible week for Metabolic Psychiatry. It has meant more to me than I can put into words to see the initiatives, conversations, networks, and clinician training that have come out this week alone. For six years, I was a mom doing everything right and watching my daughter get worse until metabolic psychiatry brought her back. This week, I got to speak alongside some of the greats in the field that I've learned from. The researchers, physicians and others who have lived it. Science moves medicine. Science moves policy. But people move people. And we don't need to wait for either to catch up before we start making better choices about what we're eating today. This might be the end of summit, but it's just the beginning of the conversation. Watch Day 5 HERE: quitsugarsummit.com/psychiat…

Day 4 of the @QuitSugarSummit Metabolic Psychiatry Summit is happening right now! This lineup is another one you don’t want to miss! Like the first 3 days, this lineup is yet another one that hits close to home for me. When we took away the sugar and ultra-processed foods and built our family’s plates from real whole foods, everything changed. From treatment resistant to remission from serious mental illness in just 6 weeks. 🧠 The food on our plates matters. SO much more than we’ve ever been told. The paradigm shifting field of metabolic psychiatry is not just a scientific movement, it’s also a movement fuelled by real people with lived experiences who have been through the trenches of mental and metabolic health and found their way out with metabolic therapies. Don’t miss day 4! Register HERE: quitsugarsummit.com/psychiat…

Cookie dough doesn’t need to be a blood sugar rollercoaster full of ultraprocessed ingredients. 🍪 Butter. Egg yolks. Coconut flour. 100% dark chocolate chips. Monk fruit. Salt. No refined sugar. No refined grains. No seed oils. No sugar crash an hour later. Just real-food ingredients, healthy fats, and a sweet treat that keeps the carbs low. We don’t always have to give up the foods we love. We just need to rethink the ingredients. 🍪 Edible Cookie Dough ¾ cup softened butter ½ cup coconut flour 2 egg yolks 35 drops liquid monk fruit 1 tsp coarse sea salt 2 tbsp 100% dark chocolate chips Directions Mix softened butter, egg yolks, and liquid monk fruit until smooth and creamy. Add coconut flour and salt, mixing until combined. Fold in chopped chocolate. Grab the spoons.

Good morning! Coffee is something many of us love and those who work with me know that I’m a big advocate of finding better ways to enjoy your morning coffee. Because morning coffee isn’t supposed to be dessert setting you up for potential disaster. Mine is an organic decaf. It has butter, MCT oil, egg yolk, sea salt and cinnamon today. No sugar. No flavoured creamer. No oat milk pretending to be a health food. Sugar and carbohydrate-heavy coffee drinks can send blood sugar climbing, setting us up for energy crashes, hunger, hanger, increased appetite and cravings, and keeping us stuck in fight or flight even when there might be nothing to fight or flee from. And it’s not just physical. Blood sugar swings can also contribute to brain fog, irritability, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and mood changes. Add caffeine, poor sleep and chronic stress? You may be setting yourself up for a rough one before the day even begins. I choose fat for fuel, nutrients for my brain, and zero added sugar. Feed your body. Not your symptoms.
