AI can write a lesson plan in seconds. It cannot decide what a community owes its children. We need human leadership. That distinction is at the heart of my District Administration article announcing the @FETC 2027 content agenda.
The question facing district leaders is not simply which #AI tools to adopt. It is what we want students to know, do, and become; and how technology can help us get there without erasing the thinking and relationships learning requires. A vendor roadmap is not a district vision. A ban does not teach judgment. And if AI can complete an assignment, we may need to rethink the assignment.
At the Future of Education Technology Conference next January, educators will explore responsible AI, #cybersecurity, career-connected learning, digital wellness, and assessment redesign. The thread connecting these conversations is human leadership: creativity to imagine what is possible, synthesis to make sense of competing needs, empathy to earn trust, and agency to act.
I hope district teams arrive with one stubborn problem, listen to students and teachers, and leave with a measure of what better learning looks like. AI will keep getting more capable and amplify human capabilities. Our responsibility is to become more intentional and strategic.

Students forget up to 70% of new content within 24 hours. 📉
It’s not your teaching, it’s how the brain works. But there’s a fix that requires ZERO extra planning: Retrieval Practice.
Here are 5 quick moves you can use tomorrow:

The state of Georgia just audited how teachers actually use AI.
Not a vendor survey. An independent performance audit from the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts.
Here is what they found:
58% of Georgia teachers have used @magicschoolai. Second only to the consumer brand of ChatGPT. Ahead of Gemini. Ahead of Copilot. Ahead of Claude.
Google put Gemini on every Chromebook in America. Microsoft baked Copilot into the software districts already pay for. These are the two companies with the deepest reach in all of K-12, sitting on effectively unlimited distribution and trillion dollar balance sheets.
And when an independent state auditor asked teachers what they actually reach for, more of them named the tool that a former teacher bootstrapped out of their living room in summer 2023
We did not get here by coming pre-installed. We got here because one teacher told another. Because it helped them on a Tuesday, when they were exhausted and still had thirty things left to do.
I was that tired teacher once. That is the whole reason this company exists.
Educators and school district leaders chose this. Teachers carried this story, by trusting us with the most important work there is and then telling a friend down the hall.
To every educator who gave us a shot: thank you. I will never forget who we are building for.
So much more ahead. Just getting started.

Does your classroom have set seating, or do your kids get to choose? "Where do you work best?" helps students think about where they focus best—a desk, the floor, a corner, or maybe with a friend. youtube.com/watch?v=vXpg3UWU…

Before any PD session, staff meeting, or lesson, ask one question: "Would I want to sit through this?"
If the answer is no, redesign it. If you wouldn't learn from it, they won't either. Empathy is the cheapest instructional design tool available.

Made a quick video showing the top 5 ways teachers are using the Wayground (formerly Quizizz) AI Chrome extension right now. It's just so good! 🔥
ChatGPT quizzes, Google Slides, Google Docs, YouTube videos, all of it can be turned into assessments, flashcards, presentations, and interactive videos in seconds. It's wild! 😎
And it's very much free. Any teacher can install it today.
That said, if your district is already using Wayground, this extension takes everything to another level. If it hasn't been pushed out to your teachers yet, that could be a pretty easy win sitting on the table 😃

3 quick checks that actually work:
1️⃣ Retrieval practice warm-ups
2️⃣ Turn & teach a partner
3️⃣ Targeted exit tickets
The key:
Ask one clear question, not vague reflection.
Small checks → big learning gains.
