Great start to the 2023-2024 season! Lots of new faces! A fantastic presentation by our officers, who also provided snacks! Even Dr. Tiemann, Mr. Smith-MW Activities Director and Mr. Hawkins stopped by to say HI and Good Luck! @getiemann @LanceSmith34 @MWHSactivities – at Omaha, NE
I LOVE hexagonal thinking, and I love this additional resource for students to track the discussion and connections being created! #552Bobcat
Jogging our brains after spring break with Hexagonal Thinking! This is a staple activity in my room - created this game sheet for students to more actively engage. Works for vocab, review, communication, note taking! #EDUProtocols #GoogleSlides #sschat @teacher2teacher
What a great resource to implement for small group discussions! I'm always looking for ways to deepen student discussions and keep the dialogue flowing through THEM #552Bobcat
Tired of listening to shallow STUDENT DISCUSSIONS? Try this.

Playing Poetry for Neanderthals with my freshmen as we work with Sonnets and Shakespeare always leads to LOTS of laughs 🤣🤣 #552Bobcat
How have your Ss made you LOL recently?

Have something to say – but don't know how?
To support student talk, educator Dustin Oldenburg offers these simple scripts:
This is such a simple and helpful infographic! Teaching Google Classroom expectations is something I do early in the school year and revisit throughout. My students would definitely benefit from this! #552Bobcat

I love these discussion sentence stems! All students should practice using their voice in the classroom and flexing their questioning skills. Sentence stems are a great way to get them started #552Bobcat
Have you included debates in your instructional routines? Check out how T @MrDaubitz encourages Ss to stay cognizant of the claims they're making:

I like to incorporate Wellness Wednesdays during the winter months. Students fill out a Google Form checking in with how they are doing and if they want me to touch base with them. This helps me keep a pulse check on my kiddos during a busy and hard time of the year #552Bobcat
Snowpocalypse is striking again!! We are expected to get 2 feet of snow between today and tomorrow. What do you do in the classroom to help fight the winter blues away? #552Bobcat

The English teacher hill I’ll die on: students have to talk. And talk and talk. Discuss books, short stories, their own writing, poetry, their opinions- all of it. Talk with their teachers, talk with each other. Discourse is a skill they’re learning. So is listening.
This could be a great resource to use when my students and I return from Spring Break in a week! #552Bobcat
With this activity, educator @MrsSpinasClass' Ss continue their culture-building – not just in the back-to-school season, but all year round.

ALT Screenshot of a Google Slideshow titled "Revisiting our Classroom Norms." In three sections, the following questions are asked: "For the most part, what's a norm that this community adheres to well? How do you know?" "What's a classroom norm that this community needs to revisit? Why is it important?" "are there other norms that you might suggest to help this classroom community be its very best?"

Mapping out their thoughts—before, during, and after reading a text—is a great way for high school students to strengthen their #ActiveReading skills. @DrSunainaSharma shares how this works in her classroom. edutopia.org/article/teachin…
A5) Educational opportunities/settings are going to become more technology based. Being digitally literate is now a part of being a responsible citizen, so technology must become a part of students' educational experience if they are to be functional citizens #552Bobcat
A4) I will use the "Question" feature on Google Classroom either as a bell ringer or exit ticket. This feature allows me to check in with students and see what they recall from a lesson. Then, I can gauge what to review or who to check in with! #552Bobcat
This would work SO WELL to help students structure an endnote when peer reviewing essays! I'll have to give this a shot in my freshmen English class #552Bobcat
How am I helping students to understand other people’s thoughts and feelings to develop compassion and empathy?

Love this reflection/intervention tool! Could be a powerful check in for students at this time of the school year.👍👍🤩 #552Bobcat
