#TreatiesRecognitionWeek is coming soon, and this looks like a great opportunity for educators to learn about two treaties covering lands in Halton Region. Darin Wybenga of @mcfirstnation is an acclaimed speaker, historian, and former elementary school educator. @HDSBIndigenous
On November 9 at 6:30 p.m. join Darin Wybenga, Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Coordinator of @mcfirstnation, for an illustrated history of the Mississaugas and the story behind treaties 14 & 22, which cover the land that Oakville now sits on. Details: oakville.ca/museum/programs-…

Excellent thread on the importance of not just wearing a helmet but ensuring it is correctly fitted. Also remember that helmets need to be replaced after one impact, and materials degrade over time so even a collision-free helmet needs replacing approx. every 5 years.
Once when I was young, around 8 or so, we had a garage sale. My siblings and I were killing time riding our bikes along the sidewalk and this guy stopped in. But he wasn't there to buy anything. He went up to my mom, introduced himself and said he'd stopped because he saw us...

We all play a part in upholding #TRC Calls to Action & must hold ourselves accountable. In the words of @jessewente β€œWe can’t rely on governments, institutions, or companies to do this work. Only we, the people, can and must solve this most human of problems." #EveryChildMatters

I highly recommend the book @AaronWardDene refers to in this thread - β€œ21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act: Helping Canadians make reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples a reality.” Essential reading for all Canadians. Buy it here: goodminds.com/products/97809…

Welcome to our classroom. Let’s talk about how we want the room to look and how you would like to see yourself represented within the walls and on the walls of our shared learning space. Let’s do this together. Stay tuned….

A belated #AprilFoolsDay post. KF1 students invited Ms. Hanmer to visit their classroom. When they offered her a brownie, of course she said YES. Guess what they gave her? A brown E! They are still giggling about it a week later. @HDSBKDGN #Kindergarten #gotcha

Today is #GivingTuesday! I just donated to @uhnfoundation’s Honour Your Hero program. My hero is the fierce and fabulous @FilioBillia @UHNTransplant, whose strength and caring got our family through some tough times post-transplant. Thank you Dr. Billia!

At 7pm on Nov. 29, 2018, Dr. Cusimano arrived to take my dad in for his heart transplant. He took this photo of my family. We were so happy! Are you a registered organ donor? Check your status here: beadonor.ca. #GiftofLife @TrilliumGift @UHNTransplant #GivingTuesday
Three years ago today the @UHNTransplant team gathered outside my dad’s room to give him the news that he was finally getting a new heart. #GivingTuesday2021 is coming up on the 30th. Give the #GiftofLife by becoming a registered organ donor. @TrilliumGift beadonor.ca

Kindergarten educators are geniuses. I asked, β€œwhy are you squirting two different things into their hands at once?” Answer: one is a spray of water, the other is a drop of soap. Kids scrub while seated, and are sent to the sink to rinse after showing their bubble-covered hands🧡

This accomplishes two things: 1) kids actually wash their hands thoroughly, and 2) it eliminates crowding at the sink. Like I said…

A personal anecdote about de-streaming in #OntEd. A thread. We grew up in a rough neighbourhood near Malvern. My brothers and I attended an elementary school where "behavioural issues" were commonplace and teachers spent a great deal of instructional time addressing them. [1/11]

#brakeforturtles! My daughter spotted this snapping turtle trying to cross the road. I picked it up safely and moved it across in the direction it was travelling. ontarionature.org/how-you-ca…

It felt SO GOOD to see those kids enjoying a co-curricular today. The positive energy was palpable; the absolute JOY of this small return to normalcy. #FeelGoodFriday
Co-curricular are BACK! πŸŽ‰ Today over 50 intermediate students participated in flag football tryouts. It warmed our hearts to see all of those smiling (and sweaty!) faces out on the field. Huge thanks to coaches Hancock, Thomas, Sydor, and Le Dressay for volunteering their time.
