🎗️ It’s Social Prescribing Day! The annual celebration of the people, organisations and communities who make social prescribing happen.
💌 Social prescribing connects people to non-medical support to enhance their lives and provide care. As the proud host of the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Music and Dementia, our Music in Mind programme delivers care for people living with dementia through the power of music.
🫶 Today, we’re at the Live Well event held at our home, The Monastery, alongside other people and organisations that provide support in every Greater Manchester neighbourhood.
🥁 We are proud to host our weekly Music Cafés here at our home in Gorton, as well as hosting a taster session today at the Livewell Event.

💪 We're on a mission to build a powerful movement embedding music into daily dementia care!
❤ The Power of Music Learning Network is an opportunity for music and dementia projects across the UK to meet with other organisations to share learning, discuss challenges, and hear from others about their work.
🤝 The network kicked off in 2024 with @NASPTweets and Manchester Camerata hosting monthly webinars focusing on developing best practices across the country.

80% of carers use music to support dementia care – report musiceducation.global/c/news… @MusicforDemUK
New Report 📣 The Music Sounds Better With You 🎶
A glimpse into the carer experience of using music and technology.
Read the full report here: musicfordementia.org.uk/wp-c…
We surveyed 1,000 non-professional carers and were encouraged to see such a widespread use of music across different forms and formats.
What stood out most to us is the clear generational divide when it comes to using music.
➡️Our research revealed that almost half (47%) felt that music can help reached a loved one and turn a day around.
➡️But while care givers want to use music only 61% feel very confident using technology, leaving 39% who may not be able benefit from streaming services that require technology such as Spotify or web-based technologies such as m4d Radio and Music Can.
🧒 👵 The digital divide between older and younger carers is evident. 79% of 18-24 year olds use technology with ease compared with just 35% of 65-74 year olds.
🎤 The use of music is diverse. People are all using music in different ways, whether that’s attending a choir, playing an instrument or simply listening to the radio.
