And Christians have been influenced by the Enlightenment
If you think slavery is wrong your mind has been influenced by Christianity.

Yes, the Bible very clearly condoned slavery. The curse of Ham was not used to justify slavery itself, it was used to justify race-based slavery of blacks. Those are two very different things. You don't need to invent the silly curse to get the Bible to condone slavery.
Did the Bible Really Justify Slavery?

Saying the Biblical intent was to "move away from slavery" is a post hoc reinterpretation based on a modern understanding of morality, and ignores nearly 2,000 years of Christian history, & what the Bible specifically says on the topic of slavery in favor of the reinterpretation
Replying to @cgp42 @HEPennypack1
This isn't an endorsement bozo. Also, no one said that slave nations don't regulate, but they do not do so in order to move away from it entirely as was the intention and result of God regulating it for His people

How do people today still think this? My God man
Replying to @sola_chad
The slavery in the bible wasn't even actual slavery. It was like being a maid and a butler.

Can we please clear one thing up? Kidnapping has literally nothing to do with whether something is chattel slavery or not. Zero. Stop quoting Ex. 21:16 as a rebuttal to the Bible condoning chattel slavery.

Also nowhere in the Bible "Slavery is wrong" God
Replying to @MentallyNathan
Did you know this is nowhere in the Bible? “I’m fine with slavery worldwide for all eternity!” God

This is what happens when people listen to Frank Turek and don't actually know the Bible.

Since he deleted the post, thought I'd let everyone know what he said anyway.

Yes, did you know every nation had a law like that at the time Mike? Did you know that this has absolutely nothing to do with whether Biblical slavery was chattel slavery (which it is)? Did u know the Bible specifically says you can own non-Israelites as lifelong chattel slaves?
Did you know this was in the Old Testament? “He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death." Exodus 21:16

I love it when they block you and then start demanding answers to their questions

America was not in charge of slavery. Slavery existed long before America. Slavery was a norm, America provided a way to deal with it. If it's not an excuse for America, it's not an excuse for the Bible either.
The Bible was not in charge of slavery. Slavery existed long before the Bible. Slavery was a norm, Bible provided a way to deal with it. The Bible provided the morality to end it. So Christians did.

Correct, it was ethnicity based lifelong, generational chattel slavery. Not race based.
Replying to @Ernest1588761
Slavery in the Bible is not the same as racial slavery.

What American law or sentence in American founding documents expands slavery? Name a single law that encourages a new form of slavery where none existed before it. Name a single law in America that calls slavery a moral good? Why is this thought of as a good argument?
What verse in the Bible, read IN CONTEXT, expands slavery? Name a single one that encourages a new form of slavery where none existed before it Name a single verse in the Bible that calls slavery a moral good as opposed to limiting practices that were already in place prior

I'll just leave this here for you
The Bible/True Christianity is narrow. “Narrow is the way that leads to life and few there be that find it.” No one justify slavery with scripture, they instead avoid the condemning of that evil and ignored scripture. Most people that were abolitionist were devout Christians

Can anyone tell me the biggest verses relevant to this topic that are simply missing here? Ignored because they're inconvenient
Bc the Bible doesn't justify slavery. The image contains info on what the Bible says about slavery as an institution & as applied to individuals. Read & tell me what you think.

"The people who swear that slavery is wrong also insist that it's not evil to castrate little boys" This qualifies as one of the weirdest statements I've seen in years.
The people who swear that slavery is wrong also insist that it's not evil to castrate little boys. I'm not interested in what society says is right or wrong. Society's morals are fickle and subjective. Remember that 60 years ago it was "wrong" for a black man to marry a white woman.
