Pockets of fog returned this morning, primarily in areas north and west of FAY. Be aware if your travels take you in that direction. Aside from that, the Sandhills will see another warm, dry day. FAY will flirt with a high of 80 degrees for the first time in nearly two weeks.

A quick thanks to the folks at WTVD for recognizing Sanford by its full, proper name the other night. Jim Brown, Patrick McGoohan and Rock Hudson would be proud!

For those wondering ... We've finally reached the point on the calendar where FAY has never seen 90 degrees. Oct. 27, 1933, remains the latest date for a 90-degree reading. FWIW, the warmest Halloween on record was also in 1933 at 88 degrees.

If you were planning to dress like Bigfoot, a Yeti, or some other fur-clad creature for Halloween weekend, there's still time to change your mind. Temperatures on Friday will climb to about 80, then mid-70s Saturday. That's a bit warm for even the most dedicated moonster.

Here's a broad estimate on how fall color is right now across NC. Highest peaks have peaked, high color in the mountains and starting in the Foothills. Plenty showing up in the Piedmont now too.

GFS says: "If only it were Jan-Feb." Though, given our luck, it would just be cold rain.

If your early travel plans involve a trip toward the Triangle, be aware of patchy fog that lingers for a bit longer. After that, FAY will warm up into the mid-70s with scattered clouds.

Aside from some thin cirrus clouds drifting overhead, plenty of sunshine is expected today! Expect highs in the low-to-mid 70s this afternoon, followed by a cool evening with temperatures settling into the 40s and 50s. Cloudiness will increase overnight. #NCwx

A "lather-rinse-repeat" sort of day for the Sandhills. FAY started at 39 degrees, warming to about 75 this afternoon. Increasing clouds will hold the region to about 50 degrees overnight.

El Niño snowfall patterns 1950-2026. I anticipate a lot of “winter cancel” opinions after Christmas, but the party will just be getting started! History says interior Northeast first, then the coast follows late season.

Final day of the NC State Fair looks perfect! Sunshine and a high near 70 degrees. It caps off a beautiful run of weather over the 11-day span, with the average high this year within a degree of the historical average and the total rain within a few hundredths of the same.
