ALT Promotional graphic for Notre Dame Science’s Christmas Lecture titled Making Physics Viral. The event features Dr. Tatiana Erukhimova from Texas A&M University and takes place Wednesday, November 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Century Center in South Bend. The design includes bold red textured banners with gold text, confetti accents, and a circular photo of Dr. Erukhimova performing a physics demo surrounded by a burst of white powder.

ALT Professor Emeritus Graham Peaslee leans toward equipment that features a wheel machinery. Samples of different materials including textiles and paper products are affixed to the testing wheel. PIGE uses a proton beam to bombard the surface of any solid material, causing fluorine nuclei to emit gamma-rays which are then measured to detect the presence of PFAS.
