I watched the video of Rom Braslavski, the Israeli hostage held by Palestinian Islamic Jihad since his abduction from the Nova festival on October 7, showing him severely emaciated and whimpering almost incoherently. His family has asked that Ron’s video not be shared, because the young man is physically and mentally broken after nearly two years in Islamic Jihad’s captivity. What hits like a truck is the poor boy’s voice; it’s broken, he’s barely audible as he weeps about his condition. He is visibly dying. It’s heart rending, it defies words.
Yet, Hamas and Islamic Jihad post their barbaric torment of this young man as information warfare. Stop and think about the ghastly asymmetry here: they aren’t hiding what they have done to Ron, they aren’t concerned with any backlash. Not in the least. They released that video in full view of the world without any fear of condemnation.
To answer Seth’s rhetorical question, of course the answer is none; the suffering of Jews and Israelis mean less than nothing to NYT and its editorial board.
