Rest in Peace good sir...
"I'll see you again."
Again, we just lost another legend today 😔
Legendary mangaka Tetsuya Chiba, best known for creating Ashita no Joe alongside writer Asao Takamori, has passed away at 87. Through the unforgettable journey of Joe Yabuki, Chiba helped create one of the most influential sports manga ever published, a work whose imagery, characters, and emotional ending became deeply embedded in Japanese popular culture.
But Chiba’s legacy stretched far beyond the boxing ring. Across a career that began professionally in the 1950s, he created stories about sumo, golf, baseball, school life, war, and everyday people, with many eventually reaching television and film.
Some of his most notable works included:
• Ashita no Joe — Artist, with writer Asao Takamori
• Notari Matsutarō — Creator
• Ore wa Teppei — Creator
• Ashita Tenki ni Naare — Creator
• Harris no Kaze / Harris no Senpū — Creator
• Akane-chan — Original Manga Creator
• Kaze no Yō ni / Like the Wind — Original Story Creator
• Yuki no Taiyō — Creator
• Shidenkai no Taka — Creator
• 1•2•3 to 4•5•Roku — Creator
• Hinemosu Notari Nikki — Creator
• Chikai no Makyū — Artist
• Misokkasu — Creator
• Shōnen yo Racket o Idake — Creator
• Mama no Violin — Creator
His achievements were recognized at the highest levels of Japanese culture. Chiba received numerous manga honors throughout his career and, in 2024, became the first manga artist to receive Japan’s Order of Culture, one of the country’s highest distinctions.
Rest in peace, Tetsuya Chiba. Joe Yabuki may have burned until only white ash remained, but the stories Chiba drew will continue inspiring manga artists and readers for generations. 🕊️
"Let me show you the wall no amount of hard work can surpass!"
Having this as a costume in Xenoverse 2 is awesome. Pre-Android Arc Vegeta having Super Saiyan is always a fun idea.

I truly do love Toriyama’s modern art style and i really wish more people appreciated it.
It’s more rounder than his work during the manga’s serialization but still quite nice to look at
I think it's funny that the new episode felt like the writers overcorrecting BoG Vegeta being humiliated when this is still definitely happening next arc. A 100 more bingo dances wouldn't be nearly as bad as Goku needing to swoop in and save the day because you fumbled this hard.

The “humiliation” was a necessary character moment for Vegeta. It’s not even subtle, and the movie even spells it out blatantly in case someone didn’t get it yet
Both Vegeta and Goku put their pride aside to do what was necessary
I guess it's possibly Ego foreshadowing, but it makes less sense than Goku's inherent martial arts instincts protecting him. What, is he getting hints of Destruction energy without any training in actual God ki? I honestly just think it's because Vegeta's aura can be purple.

just watched a pacific rim video that made fun of tokusatsu and then say guillermo del toro based the slow heavy movements in the movie on old western gunslingers movies???? genuinely fuck off lmao
The fact they didn't keep any of the Vegeta gag moments (the most memorable gag and most important to the character of Vegeta) but kept in stuff like Oolong Rock Paper Scissors is baffling to me.
I don't care if this keeps his "dignity" in tact, it's immediately less memorable.
The entire humiliation ritual is the build up to the "My Bulma!" scene. He initially fears Beerus' temper and power, doing literally anything to keep him calm.
But the moment his wife got hurt, he didn't care anymore and just let his anger go.
It's not as impactful otherwise.

Wow, he sounds really good as Yamcha. Wish Gundam wasn't cowardly and got him to voice Amuro stuff as well. But I guess this guy probably wouldn't just wanna be "the Toru Furuya replacement" either for every show the guy worked on.
