ALT (Top) The old NSE had been among, if not the most, oversubscribed neutron scattering instruments at NIST. (Bottom) The upgrade project is toward the end of demolition, where the old main coils will be removed, and floor renovation will be followed. The ongoing progress of the NSE upgrade can be found at https://www.nist.gov/ncnr/installation-upgraded-cold-source/new-neutron-spin-echo-spectrometer-ng

ALT The new neutron velocity selector (NVS) is mounted with the old one on the new exchange table, enabling versatility in choosing the neutron wavelength range for particular structures and dynamics of interest. In the left picture, our project manager - Christoph Brocker, was overseeing the NVS installation and performing field measurements to adjust CAD model.

ALT The top right pic was the Research Facility Operation technician, Sean Mullendore, installing the cooling water line for the Helium compressor. Dr. Christoph Brocker (left pic) - our project manager and lead mechanical engineer of the upgrade project, corrected the Helium line connected with the existing precession coils. And Dr. Dan Neumann, Director of CHRNS, gave Dr. Minh Phan, the NSE instrument scientist of the upgrade project, a brief introduction to instrumentation and related concepts between different neutron techniques at NCNR (bottom right pic).

ALT This has been a busy week at NG-A, and our camera has been able to capture of few of the activities. Clockwise from upper left: Dr. Dan Neumann, Dr. Brian Kirby, and Dr. Antonio Faraone look on as Danny Ogg, and Dave Grabowski set up the instrument control network. Dan Adler and Doug Ogg work on the metrology computer to examine the instrument control network, while Sean Mullendore and Doug Johnson discuss the guide solenoid assembly. Dr. Nick Maliszewskyj (NCNR Data Acquisition Team Leader) and Doug Johnson prepare to remove the legacy auxiliary power supplies from the instrument. Doug and Danny Ogg work with the laser tracker to establish the guide alignment network.
