We are 1 year old! Our Trauma Consult Service just passed the 12 month mark, and our outcomes are better than expected. Very thankful for the dedicated work from our clinicians who have made this happen.@nshealth @Doctors_NS @HealthNS @TACTraumaCanada

We are so proud to be recognized with the 2024 CCHL Excellence in Patient Experience Award. And, even more, this letter from one of our favourite trauma survivors was fitting as our acceptance speech. Shared with permission. @CCHL_CCLS cchl-ccls.ca

Off-road vehicles crashes often result in severe injuries, and are common in Nova Scotia (and everywhere else). It's unfortunate and unacceptable that they are usually due to alcohol/drug use/risky behaviour. Time to address this. @CJEMonline @CBCNS

In Nova Scotia, major trauma patients do very well once they make it to our Level 1 hospital (QEII HSC). However, almost 70% of the victims who die from their injuries pass away BEFORE they reach our hospital. This is why injury prevention and trauma education are so important

Humbling. But, it was actually great having this chat. Big things to come for our NS trauma Program.
In this episode of Chats on Change, Nova Scotia Health Interim CEO Karen Oldfield spoke with Dr. Rob Green @NSTrauma, Senior Medical Director for Trauma Nova Scotia, to chat about the trauma consult service the team launched at the QEII in 2022.

Its time to get serious about FALLS. In Nova Scotia, FALLS are a just as common mechanism of major trauma as MVC's. And, it's mostly in our elderly population.

Started asking our trainees who spend time on our TraumaNS Inpatient Consult Service to send me "5 Things" that they were surprised they learned. @DesaiShash learned exactly what I was hoping he would. 👍👍👍 @HealthNS @TACTraumaCanada @Doctors_NS

Yes, there are more sick patients in our EDs. We know bc our trauma patients are an important driver: >20% increase (mostly lead by falls in our frail elderly). Remarkably, our trauma outcomes are improving, including a decrease in mortality. cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scot…
