Not meant to be a slight on Kane btw happy for him and he deserved it (Mbappe winning it would’ve been a disgrace) But yeah this award needs to be scrapped and restarted by a different organisation who will arrange an acceptable voting panel. The current set up is a circus.

Just a sensational defensive performance by Gabriel.

This openness in transition over the last couple of games is the whole tradeoff. Playing vertical attacking football, passing through the middle, quick restarts, all that is risk that leads to ball losses and transitions. We actually have the defenders for that, so I’m not mad.

And at the risk of being Captain Obvious, this is so much more enjoyable to watch.

There is this narrative that Merino-Rice-Øde midfield doesn’t work because of a few bad results (lots of variance in these games) in 24/25, but people forget that we played by far our worst football of last season with Rice-Zubi-Øde in that January run.

That stale-ass 3-2-5 with Rice and Øde in the pockets will haunt me for life. The switch back to a double pivot saved the season (and the whole project).

People exposing themselves with all this Merino outcry. This midfield 3 works and in fact completely changed the game vs Forest when Merino came on in the end.

Merino will not be deep in the build-up, he’ll effectively be playing second striker. MLS inverting on his side and Ødegaard wants to drop deep all the time. Merino might not be the most conventional pocket presence, but he is effective in these spaces.

Man atp how do you even pretend to be hopeful of what comes next as a United fan. It feels like they’ve tried everything, process never been perfect but anything they do eventually turns to shit. Every good season in 13 years has unequivocally proven to be a false dawn. Brutal.

Don’t get me wrong the process has been awful most of the time but even when they’ve been sensible in their player recruitment and/or coach hiring, it never seems to work for more than one season, and even in those seasons they haven’t been remotely close to winning league/CL.

I mean I didn’t have super high expectations from this game before but you have to stick it to them with that lineup. Kind of a big test for Arsenal in possession, game is pretty meaningless so it’s a good chance to go for it and give a confident performance. Would be a big boost

Joel looks incredible man. Defense not looked like that in years. Cut the grifting turnovers down and we are cooking up an insane season.

Taking off Eze at HT yesterday was a poor decision not because he was thriving on the wing (he really wasn’t). It was because he was the exact type of player we needed inside the block to break it down and had none of that ilk on the bench.

The Merino for Bruno sub was crucial not because the former is elite in the pockets, but merely him being a presence in the left pocket (switch to 4-3-3 with Merino at left 8) created better balance and spacing to 1) be able to attack on the left and 2) decongest the right side.

Right side only became effective once the left side was able to be accessed! Subs need to be purposeful, not just like for like subs. Noni LW was the right move, but not for Eze who was needed for Arsenal to be able to access the inside pockets against such a compact block.
