Current congressional candidate and former City Comptroller Brad Lander says he and a group of rabbis and volunteers were detained Wednesday by Israeli Defense Forces in the West Bank while harvesting olives. In a statement, the IDF called the harvest a "security risk" — something Lander disputed. "We did not present a security risk to anyone. We did nothing more provocative than harvest olives," Lander said. "Palestinian farmers, they don't need, and they shouldn't need, a permit to harvest olives on their own land."
