When I was young, unable to travel that didn't stop me reading about it. The Darien Gap - the accessway between Colombia and Panama - captured my imagination. The main threats then were natural - jungle critters, impenetrable jungle and the arduous trek.

The main threats now are human - the drug cartels, the locals, the authorities. Still, thousands make the trek north every day, hoping for a better life. Timmy and Mr Bald go through - it's very tough going. They're arrested and jailed: indignantly, they claim to be "kidnapped"!
