❗️ Cargo thieves have stolen more than $100M in hardware bound for US data centers since June, NBC News reports.
They hijack freight-broker accounts, post fake loads and send carriers malware links to take over their accounts too.
In one of the biggest heists, an SUV struck the security escort of a trailer carrying ~$10M in server rack components from California to Texas.
The trailer sped off. An app was tracking it, but its coordinates had apparently been spoofed.
In another, a sedan hit the off-duty police escorts of a $13M server load bound for Georgia, and the trailer drove on.
None of the equipment from either load has been found.

Claude Code just found proof that every app on your phone is listening to your conversations. TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat. they're using what you say out loud to build your feed. i have the data to prove it.
i've suspected this for months but last week something happened that made me finally check.
i was on a call with my friend and told him i'm thinking about breaking up with my girlfriend. didn't text it. didn't search it. just said it out loud with my phone on the table. two hours later she opens TikTok next to me and her entire feed is breakups. "signs your relationship is over." "how to heal after a breakup." she looked at me and said "why is TikTok showing me this." i said i don't know. but i did know.
i connected my iPhone to my MacBook and ran Claude Code that same night.
it scanned every app's background microphone activity for the last 90 days. not just the apps that asked for microphone permission. apps that were supposed to only have access to photos or location but were activating the microphone anyway.
what it found:
→ TikTok activated the microphone 347 times while the app was "closed" in the background
→ Instagram → 211 background activations
→ Facebook → 189
→ Snapchat → 94
every activation lasted between 3 and 15 seconds. enough to catch a sentence. every one of them tagged a keyword and cached it locally on the phone with a timestamp.
Claude Code pulled the full keyword cache:
→ "breakup" — tagged 4 hours before her feed changed
→ "moving out" — from a conversation with my mom last Tuesday
→ "wedding venue" — from a call with my sister about her engagement that i never searched once
→ "protein powder" — said it out loud to my roommate, had ads for it within an hour
→ "flight to tokyo" — mentioned it at dinner, saw travel ads the same night
those keywords were sitting in a local cache on my phone organized by app with timestamps. TikTok had the most entries. Instagram was second. every single keyword matched a conversation i had out loud near my phone.
the scariest one was "wedding venue." my sister told me she's getting engaged on a private call. i never searched it. never typed it. within a day my explore page had engagement rings and venue tours.
then Claude Code checked a second phone in the same room. my girlfriend's. same keywords. same timestamps. both phones were picking up the same conversation and tagging it independently.
i asked Claude Code how to shut it down. it mapped every app's microphone access and built a permission audit.
what i did:
→ revoked microphone access from every app that doesn't need it to function
→ disabled background app refresh for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat
→ turned off "Hey Siri" which keeps the microphone in passive listening mode 24/7
→ revoked "nearby interaction" permission which uses ultrasonic audio between devices
Claude Code confirmed all four apps lost background microphone access after the changes. i checked her phone too. same steps. took about 3 minutes per phone.
within 48 hours both our feeds went completely random. generic content. nothing personal. nothing from our conversations. that's when i knew for sure it was real.
the full step by step and the prompt are in the first reply. takes 3 minutes. save it so you don't lose it and send it to anyone who's ever said "my phone is definitely listening to me." it is. now you can prove it and shut it down.

Production of tunable nanomaterials using hierarchically assembled bacteriophages
Recently, we have established a bacteriophage- based biomimetic process, called ‘self-templating assembly’. We used bacteriophage as a nanofiber model system to exploit its liquid crystalline structure for the creation of diverse hierarchically organized structures.
We have also demonstrated that genetic modification of functional peptides of bacteriophage results in structures that can be used as soft and hard tissue-regenerating materials, biosensors, and energy-generating materials.
Here, we describe a comprehensive protocol to perform genetic engineering of phage, liter-scale amplification, purification, and self-templating assembly, and suggest approaches for characterizing hierarchical phage nanostructures using optical microscopy, atomic-force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Virus-PEDOT Nanowires for Biosensing
The separate fields of conducting polymer-based electrochemical sensors and virus-based molecular recognition offer numerous advantages for biosensing.
Grafting M13 bacteriophage into an array of poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanowires generated hybrids of conducting polymers and viruses. The virus incorporation into the polymeric backbone of PEDOT occurs during electropolymerization via lithographically patterned nanowire electrodeposition (LPNE).
The resultant arrays of virus-PEDOT nanowires enable real-time, reagent-free electrochemical biosensing of analytes in physiologically relevant buffers.

Graphene & bacteriophages were first combined in 2010 by Cui et al. marking the emergence of a novel class of hybrid nanomaterials.
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2094…
The term GRAPHAGES was coined in 2019 by Passaretti et al. A strong indication that research on graphages is still at a nascent stage, is the fact that Passaretti’s study remains the only one to date that has systematically investigated the self-assembly & structural properties of graphene–phage hybrids.
GraPhage13
The bottom-up self-assembly of graphene oxide (GO) into a 3D porous structure spanning the micro- & nanoscales, yielding a unique hierarchical graphene oxide sponge based on a synbio approach, by exploiting the phage M13, acting as a cross-linker between the graphene nanosheets.
Our facile method to fabricate GO-M13 sponges (GraPhage13), is performed w/out the need of extreme conditions of temperature, pressure or pH rendering it an environmentally friendly & scalable material, further characterised by ultra-low-density & high-surface-area.

GraPhage13 aerogels (GPA)
Graphene oxide (GO) & M13 bacteriophage can self-assemble to form ultra-low density porous structures, known as GraPhage13 aerogels (GPA). We have developed a method to enhance the conductivity of GraPhage13 aerogels (GPA), via the integration & optimisation of 5 nm & 20 nm diameter gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into the aerogel structure. The fabricated GPA-Au nanocomposites exhibited increases in conductivity, w/ the integration of 5 nm AuNPs leading to a 53-fold increase compared to GPA, achieving a performance of up to 360 nS/cm, which is w/in the range suitable for MINIATURISED SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICES.
GraPhage13 aerogel has the ability to tune its properties thru nanoparticle integration, offering possibilities for further customisation w/ various nanomaterials & modifications of M13 viral building blocks. This paves the way for future integration into electronic systems & the development of advanced graphene-based sensors.

The PERfECT system can also serve as a miniaturized electrochemical station for wearable electrochemical (EC) measurements. This added function permits a facile route to calibrating the OECT biosensors.
We envision PERfECT(s) will promote the research of developing wearable edge-computing hardware where sensing, data storage, & computing can be realized in a miniaturized wearable entity.

a user (u/Crunchy-Nut1) on our r/claudecode subreddit community connected claude code to his honda civic's chinese head unit.
he found that:
- a voice assistant was always listening for its wake word and running a hidden webview that consumed ~30% cpu even when nobody was talking
- a call recorder was preinstalled on the device handling his bluetooth calls
- the firmware had a root backdoor left by the vendor.
- a startup script silently installed any apk placed in a hidden folder, then deleted the file.
- the vendor's update app could push new firmware remotely.
- baidu location services and a vendor log collector were running in the background.
- the listing claimed device had 8 cores and android 15. the actual hardware had 4 cores and android 9, with a security patch from october 2021.
he then used claude code to:
- disable the always-listening assistant and other unwanted apps, then remove 18 packages after backing them up.
- shut down the root backdoor and hidden apk installation mechanism.
- disable the vendor's cloud updater.
- configure adguard private dns to block ads and trackers.
- upgrade android webview from version 66 to 138.
- build a custom civic launcher, generate its icons, and recalibrate the backup camera guidelines
- install open-source apps with sha-256 verification and lock down network access
debloating your cheap hardware is a pretty sick usecase of claude code

I keep asking myself why the shots were not pulled immediately when it was obvious that injury and death were piling up everywhere. Cycle through the excuses: embarrassment, bureaucratic ineptness, lack of courage, difficult to course correct, too much money to be made, utilitarian cost of getting to herd immunity, and so on.
The darkest possible reason: making money off medical problems, sickness, and iatrogenic injury is America's largest industry by employment. Vaccine injury is sad but profitable. I really do not want to believe that this explains why the shots were not pulled or why they are still on the market.

This sums it up well. My Mexican friends tell me this same thing. There is no left or right in the Technate. There is only the algorithm. And those who own it.
Morena will stay in power. The window for American intervention has closed, if it was ever open in the first place. The United States does not overthrow governments that comply. It disciplines them. Mexico has been disciplined, and Mexico complies.
In September, Rubio said Mexico's fight against the cartels "is not nearly enough" and that the U.S. would confront those organizations "one way or another". He also claimed that vast territories of Mexico are controlled by narco-terrorist organizations rather than the state.
Yet this is pressure, not regime change. Rubio himself said he does not want to disrupt the relationship with Mexico, citing his rapport with Sheinbaum. Although Rubio would certainly prefer an ideological ally, he does not need one. He needs results on fentanyl, migration, and Chinese transshipment, and he is getting them.
What guarantees this arrangement is the succession. The key variable is 2030. Omar García Harfuch is not an ideologue. He is a career police officer from a family of the old security state. Polls place him at 40% of Morena sympathizers' preferences for the 2030 candidacy. Velasco of the Green Party openly promoted him, Washington reportedly backed him, and Morena's hardliners distrust him. He publicly rules out running, saying his priority is security, but that denial is standard Mexican ritual. If Harfuch is the heir, Washington gets a security partner and right-leaning man inside a left-wing party.
The same logic explains the foreign policy theater. Morena is, in large part, a continuation of PRI-style governance. Its cordial ties with Havana and its silence on Managua are not alignment but leverage. Refusing to condemn the Cuban and Nicaraguan dictatorships costs little and buys the appearance of independence. Washington understands this perfectly and allows it. It knows Mexico is not following the Cuban path. The rhetoric is domestic consumption and negotiating posture.
In substance, the Mexican state is bound to the American one. The old PRI played the same game for decades: nationalism in the speeches, but the U.S. interests in the decisions.
At home, the road from 2024 to mid-2026 was bumpy. Sheinbaum had to govern with a party built around another man, and the AMLO loyalists held key positions. That has largely been resolved. In February, Adán Augusto López left Morena's Senate coordination, with Ignacio Mier taking formal control while the Tabasco politician moved to "territorial work". Reports also emerged that Andy López Beltrán would leave the party's organization secretariat, to be replaced by Citlalli Hernández.
The lesson of Mexican history applies: the outgoing caudillo's network always erodes. Calles fell to Cárdenas. Every PRI president eventually emancipated himself from his predecessor. Sheinbaum is following the script.
Here lies the modern caveat. The PRI controlled people through unions, peasant leagues, and patronage. Morena is building control through data. The biometric CURP took effect after a decree was published, with reforms backed by Sheinbaum and Morena. It incorporates facial recognition and fingerprints to verify citizens' identity. Mobile phone lines were tied to registered owners, and unregistered lines were to be disabled after June 30, 2026, allowing only emergency calls. It is also linked to social programs and pensions, including registering for and collecting benefits. Combine this with direct cash transfers, and the state no longer needs union intermediaries. It knows who you are, where your phone is, and what money you receive.
This is corporatism without corporations. The patron-client relationship has become individualized and digitized.

It's extremely difficult to make compelling arguments for anything. You can use logic but not everyone is logical. You can cite evidence but there's always more evidence. You can cite experts but expertise is always suspect.
The single most compelling argument for anything is one that relies on first-hand experiential reports, in their own words, measured against common moral standards.
This is why this set of books is so incredibly powerful. I dare anyone who supports this program to read just 5 pages and say this is just fine.

Trigger warning - Candid Manufacturing Commentary
Connor’s article is great, and asks a lot of the right questions. But I almost fell off my chair at the attached chart.
A machine shop with fewer than 20 employees is too small.
Not being rude, I’m not sure how they are even viable? It must require heroic sacrifice from everyone involved.
This explains much of the discourse on X of recent years. Such small machine shops are not normal. All the shops I have visited in US were 50+ people and I honestly was not aware of this dramatic skew to the low end.
First of all, that’s too small to train new machinists. It’s just too expensive and too burdensome to train new workers if they are >5% of your throughout. That’s half your margin. Gone.
If you have only 5 employees then training a new person means the company operates at a loss for 2-3 years. Heroic sacrifice.
Machining is made-to-order, orders are lumpy, you cannot absorb volatility unless you have scale. Volatility bears a cost. Above a certain size the volatility smoothes out, suddenly you can manage and plan things. Below this size things want to break up like floating ice. I’m surprised it’s sustainable?
The average machine shop size in Europe is 106 employees. In USA it is 6! Further European machine shops are shrinking due to China-pressure and many European shops are worried about getting too small and their economics breaking, according to the chart below they are on average 20x bigger than American shops.
Looking at the chart below I would guess most of these businesses struggle to break even year on year?
It is also incredible that only 9 shops in USA have more than 500 employees??
Germany has 12,066 machine shops and 700 of them have more than 500 employees.
Seven hundred to nine!
The US industrial base looks to be shattered. To which I mean it is fragmented in the extreme. It needs massive consolidation to create more viability.
This might be unpopular, but come on now.
You need to put a lot of machine units on a single site, two aisles of 15-20 bays with a central throughway and you need a full 100ft span and 25 ton SWL runway crane coverage overhead with 100s of ft of rail. This is a minimalist setup.
Anything less will lose money due to volatility and underutilisation. The level of duplicated effort across 8,000 shops with fewer than 5 staff is a tragedy.
This is not good capital allocation, and the market seems to be screaming it.
Just make them bigger, duh.
How did this happen? Because this is not the shape of the industrial base that won WWII.

I cannot wrap my head around the endgame here. If you destroy the planet, crash the global economy, and leave ordinary people too broke to buy anything, what exactly are billionaires planning to do with all that money? Sit in underground bunkers staring at bank balances while the world falls apart? Wealth is only valuable when there's a functioning society around it. So what exactly are they trying to win?

The sad reality is Fascism historically was, as a large factor, born out of urban dwelling ex-military, rank and file soliders dealing with a huge military losses and total disenfranchisement. It was particularly popular with officers who bore the brunt of having to shoulder the humiliation of representing the establishment.
Here in 2026 the exact same formula brews: artists and technical mediators, mostly the PMC of media who went to university to access the jobs and paid dearly (and are in debt), are hysterical confronting the reality that they aren't going to be the managers and gatekeepers anymore.
Their instituitions have failed them and they are forlorn- and it's the DSA and the DNC that are targeting their anger. Left fascism will be ultimately reactionary: focused on preventing the removal of the fetters on production.
These people will go to war to protect their senicures on completely unproductive rents rather than be proletarianized.
