The beautiful, blissful experience of interacting with a frontier-ish reasoning model without worrying about a usage meter will soon be a thing of the past.
I am weirdly significantly impacted by this. It feels like it shouldn’t matter…I could reserve all current usage for Codex and buy a $20 plan just for ChatGPT and it would be more than enough. But it’s not about the money…it’s about the psychological impact of The Meter.
The idea of having to think about optimizing for a meter is just so exhausting that it ruins the whimsy of free-flowing exploratory thought.
That is what ChatGPT was. A whimsical, magical all-you-can-think buffet of experimentation and exploration where you were limited only by your imagination and your ability to come up with $20 once a month.
You didn’t have to think about “using all of your usage” or scheduling your thinking time around someone else’s arbitrary schedule…you just had a portal to endless information and research capability in your pocket to tap into guilt-free at any time the moment struck you.
But either because OpenAI thinks adding the meter will stimulate additional usage (it probably will), generate additional revenue (it probably will), or just because too many people took undue advantage of ChatGPT’s generous allowances (they definitely did)…that amazing, weightless experience is now coming to an end.
It was awesome while it lasted. RIP ChatGPT.
He propably didn't use little magic he still has before this, since it's too draining for him now. He litterly almost fell after opening a LITTLE portal. It looked like he was about to faint

there's something about stolas's magic that genuinely confuses me.
we've now seen him manage to use a little magic while he was with vassago and octavia, even though it clearly took a lot of effort and energy.
but if stolas still had some magic left inside him, why didn't he use it against andrealphus in sinsmas?
instead, he resorted to physically attacking andrealphus after being provoked by his insulting remarks. and honestly, that's another thing that surprised me, considering how physically weak stolas has been portrayed in the past.
of course, anger and adrenaline could explain that sudden burst of strength, especially given how emotionally charged the confrontation was. but the magic is what really interests me.
why didn't he use even a little of it to help blitzø and I.M.P. fight andrealphus? even if he couldn't perform powerful spells anymore, perhaps he could've concentrated whatever magic remained into one attack to distract or temporarily stop him.
instead, octavia was ultimately the one who stepped in and protected her father.
there's also the possibility that stolas simply didn't realize he still had any magic left. but then why did vassago encourage him to try using it, knowing he'd supposedly lost his powers?
did vassago suspect something about stolas's magic that stolas himself didn't know?
i'm also wondering whether the writers deliberately kept this hidden for a future reveal, or whether there's an explanation we haven't been given yet.
perhaps stolas's magic was never completely removed, but only suppressed or severely weakened. maybe he still has some latent power that he hasn't learned how to access.
and another possibility crossed my mind: could the necklace have something to do with it? perhaps coming into contact with it somehow reactivated a small amount of his magic, or even transferred some magical energy back to him.
i'm not saying that's definitely what happened, but i'd love to understand how he can still perform magic if his powers were supposedly taken away.
still, my biggest question remains:
if stolas had magic left, why couldn't he access it when blitzø and the others were in danger?
was it simply too weak to be useful in a fight? did he not know it was there? did something reactivate it afterward? or is there something much bigger going on with his powers?
i really hope the show explains this, because i'm starting to wonder whether stolas has lost his magic completely after all.
