Most people who climb that high never feel it, but in one Everest study 19 of 21 climbers above 25,000 feet got tiny retinal bleeds. They usually clear once you descend.

I was lucky enough to stand at Everest Base Camp myself. What nobody tells you is how quiet it is between the icefalls, and how small every plan feels next to that wall of ice. A film about the people who ski off the top has my full attention — the mountain lets very few visitors touch its roof.
