Warriors For Christ Ministries THE GOSPEL WALK Matthew — Chapter 17 of 28 EXPLAINED Six days after Jesus said some would see the Son of man coming in His kingdom, He takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain. He is transfigured: face shining as the sun, raiment white as light. Moses and Elias appear with Him. Peter offers three tabernacles. A bright cloud overshadows them and the Father says, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” (Matthew 17:5, KJV). They fall in fear. Jesus touches them: “Arise, and be not afraid.” They see Jesus only. Coming down, He charges them not to tell the vision until the Son of man is risen. They ask about Elias. Jesus says Elias has already come (John the Baptist) and that the Son of man shall suffer. A father brings his lunatick son who falls into fire and water. The disciples could not cure him. Jesus rebukes the faithless generation, rebukes the devil, and the child is cured. He tells the disciples it was unbelief. Faith as a mustard seed moves mountains; this kind comes only by prayer and fasting. In Galilee He again predicts betrayal, death, and rising the third day. They are exceeding sorry. In Capernaum the tax collectors ask if He pays tribute. Jesus says the children are free, yet lest they offend He sends Peter to catch a fish with a coin that pays for both. SUMMARY Jesus is revealed in glory with Moses and Elias; the Father commands all to hear His Son. Unbelief fails against a strong demon, Jesus again foretells His death and resurrection, and a fish supplies the temple tax so no offense is given. KEY POINTS - Jesus is transfigured with Moses and Elias; the Father says “hear ye him.” - Elias is John the Baptist; the Son of man shall suffer. - Unbelief blocked the disciples; mustard-seed faith moves mountains by prayer and fasting. - Jesus predicts betrayal, death, and rising the third day. - As Son He is free from the tax yet pays it to avoid offense. APPLY IT TODAY Hear Jesus above every other voice. When a stronghold will not yield, check unbelief and return to prayer and fasting. Trust the same Son who shone on the mountain still heals, still supplies what is needed, and still rises. Walk in faith that nothing shall be impossible, and do not cause unnecessary offense.
