THREAD: It’s Earth Day and in *celebration* of that fact, I’d like to talk to you about Ohio’s ongoing costly, corrupt, environmental boondoggle; the bailout of the OVEC coal plants.
Grab a chair.
The OVEC bailout is an economic boondoggle that’s supporting keeping environmental and public health boondoggles online. There’s no reason that needs to continue but the only way it stops is if we take action.
😎
Ohio's coal bailout is history!
Thanks to thousands of Ohioans who spoke out over the years, the Ohio legislature finally put an end the more than $450 million mistake that raised electric bills & polluted our communities.

I don’t post on here much anymore but popping in to share this thread. I had the privilege of helping launch PCFO and it’s bonkers how much cool stuff the PCFO team has accomplished since its inception. Absolute amazing work!
With the new year quickly approaching, we’re taking a moment to look back at all of the great clean energy and sustainability work that happened in Ohio communities this year! 🧵 #LocalsLeadTheWay

Ohio's Gavin power plant--a coal-burning giant--would close or switch to a different fuel by 2031 following a pending sale. My story: insideclimatenews.org/news/1…

Whatever happens in coming days, to repeat: I would have been hooted off the stage if I had said on January 20, 2021, that in two years, with a razor-thin margin in the House, no margin for error in the Senate, no hope of R cooperation, a fractured country, 1/
As @jake_zuckerman notes, the company that benefits from this bill has a history of air violations. Of course, that's not the end of the story and it's actually even more ridiculous.
In bipartisan vote, the Ohio House passed legislation to let a facility that bakes coal to make "coke" claim a Renewable Energy Credit. Utilities buy these to comply with clean energy laws.
The basis? It sells waste heat to a petrochemical plant nextdoor

This past February, EPA moved to reinstate the air nuisance rule agreeing with us conceding many of the original arguments to repeal it were incorrect.

Something I've been thinking about all day:
About a year ago, literal, flag-furling Nazis protested a drag brunch at a trendy Columbus brewery. Chanting "there will be blood" and "Aryan sun"
No police response. No broad political outcry. The day just came and went.

🎉🎉🎉@EPA just finalized four standards to hold the electric sector industry accountable for its pollution! These rules will save lives - they will result in cleaner air and cleaner water for millions of people. Thank you @EPAMichaelRegan @POTUS!

Something not aspirational but very much happening; the gas plant OSU is building next on campus next to 315. Building new gas isn’t exactly in line with climate goals.
University spokesman Ben Johnson said most of Ohio State's carbon neutrality goals are "aspirational in nature." dispatch.com/story/news/educ…

I can independently confirm, via Franklin County Coroner's office, that Sam Randazzo was found dead from apparent suicide around noon today (4/9). He was 74.
He has been accused of taking a $4.3 million bribe as chairman of the PUCO, and was facing state and federal charges
