Don't make too much of it. They were just discussing logistics and security precautions.

Watching old 2016 GOP presidential primary debates, one is not only struck by their fawning - worshipful - attitudes expressed concerning Israel, but how 1) candidates direct completely unrelated topics to Israel (e.g. in clip related, Ben Carson is asked about taxes and changes the subject to Israel) 2) how candidates falsely accuse each other of being anti-Israel.
This was a cult. The fact that it appealed to voters is also highly disturbing. They didn't talk about the UK, Australia, Japan, or other (actual) allies in this fashion.

In general, it was truly insane how the public debate about Israel was controlled and kept within extremely narrow bounds in the US, American politicians and commentators were visibly walking on eggs whenever the topic came up and it was like listening to someone with battered woman syndrome. Almost the entire world was looking at this shit in disbelief because it was so bizarre.
My favorite example is actually AOC's 2018 interview, where she inadvertently used the expression "the occupation of Palestine" and you could tell both that she didn't know much about the topic but also that she was terrified to have made a faux pas and immediately proceeded to almost apologize for it. I remember watching that interview at the time and, as a Frenchman, it sounded completely surreal.
This was basically a collective action problem, same as AIPAC's power in Congress, but the war effectively solved it and the pre-2023 equilibrium is never coming back. In fact, I expect that we'll hear a lot of crazy anti-Israel talk in the future, because the heavy-handed tactics used by the lobby for decades have created a lot of resentment and many people are going to act on it now that it's safe to do so.
Pro-Israel voices in the US are thoroughly unprepared for that, because they have been so used to completely dominating the discourse on the topic that at this point their only response to attacks on Israel is hysterics (as we have seen recently with Mamdani and El-Sayed), but that only works if people are scared and they're not anymore. Eventually they will adjust but it will take a while and they will have a hard time convincing rich Jewish donors whose brains have been destroyed by social media.

One thing I love about Pope Leo is how deeply emotional he is. You can always see it in his facial expressions.
It is not just a passing mood; it is part of his nature. I have countless beautiful moments of him that show this.
God bless our Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV!

(In the See of Oswestry, let me tell you, we hold ourselves to higher standards at this, particularly at pontifical liturgies. This is some very bad slop)

He's always struck me as someone who performs intelligence rather than demonstrates it.
His repeated "Why does God give children cancer?" response to questions about faith always comes across like a rehearsed soundbite disguised as philosophical argument.
A fake intellectual.

Simon Harris cost this country €1.5bn with his handling of the contract for the National Childrens Hospital, That is equivalent to 4500 people on the dole for 20 years all the while being paid over €2.1m over the last 14 years.
Simon Harris is an incompitent hypocrite.

In fact, the only verifiable measure of religiosity (also in politics) is not how much people talk about God and morality, but how much they value truth over power.

Does Simon Harris not have a PR advisor? They should tell him to stop acting tough he just comes across as even more of a wimp.

Leo is unfailingly a breath of fresh air, especially after the Stasi-like environment of his predecessor’s pontificate.

While I’m deeply sympathetic to what Portland is doing here, I’m more sympathetic to the wisdom of the Old Rite.
Don’t police lay posture.
Our Office of Divine Worship explains why the faithful should refrain from extending their hands during the Our Father at Mass:
"Further, the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, states that “no other person, even if he be a priest, may add, remove, or change anything in the liturgy on his own authority.” (SC 22.3) Since the GIRM is very specific that the priest is instructed by the GIRM (152) to extend his hands when he prays the Lord’s Prayer, for the deacons or the laity to extend their hands would be adding to the liturgy. Therefore, the practice of the lay faithful extending their hands (or holding hands) during the Our Father should not be done."

I agree with this. One of the things that impresses me about the old rite and churches where the new rite is done excellently is that lay people do as they please.....kneel, stand, walk around and visit a shrine or side altar after Communion.
It shows confidence.

In any world that made any sense at all (sadly not this one), all of these people would be in prison.
In resurfaced footage of Dario Amodei being interviewed, the Anthropic CEO says there will be AIs so powerful that if they want to destroy humanity, “we have basically no ability to stop it.”
“There will be powerful models. They will be agentic. We’re getting towards them.”
“If such a model wanted to wreak havoc and destroy humanity or whatever, I think we have basically no ability to stop it.”
