"The Music That Might Have Been"
Austin Wintory, renowned composer behind games like Journey, releases 22 minutes of early Mass Effect 5 musical drafts from his pitch to compose the game:
"Working on Mass Effect 5 was my career's biggest dream project, my white whale. It is my favorite franchise of all time, and for the last couple years I'd been in serious conversations with BioWare and EA to jump in.
My suggestion was to treat the original game's masterful Jack Wall/Sam Hulick score as a starting point, and to build on it from there with deeper use of physical, analog synths and a more tightly interwoven use of the orchestra. But a love letter first and foremost (not unlike my approach to the Aliens franchise with Fireteam Elite).
As part of the ongoing dialogue, I decided last year (2025) to surprise the folks with an elaborate production: nearly 20 minutes of music, fully recorded and produced with synths, vocals and a large orchestra here in LA. I'd not yet learned any narrative details of what they were planning so this was just pure musical exploration.
Receiving the news alongside everyone else that EA had decided to not only cancel the project but shutdown BioWare entirely was a deeply felt loss. It's been hard to see dear friends lose their jobs, and this beloved franchise seemingly vanish forever.
Thank you nonetheless to everyone at BioWare and EA's music department for gifting me the chance to dream in your sandbox. It was a privilege to do even that much."

#SaveMassEffect
The positive critical reception to Call of Duty this year is proof that Activision and Xbox must both continue to invest in quality campaigns as a core tenet of the franchise and also continue to launch it early every year.
Modern Warfare 4’s strategy is a winning one.

Mass Effect is the literal “Star Wars” of gaming, it’s an IP/Franchise/Universe that’s barely scratched the surface of its potential across entertainment
Mass Effect is worth saving

EA needs to be put out to pasture for this crime against humanity.
This looks like the *perfect* sequel to Mass Effect 3 that we’ve waited 14 years for.
A purported BioWare developer has leaked a trailer for the cancelled ME 5 on Reddit.
The footage, reportedly titled "MASS EFFECT UNIVERSE," appears to suggest the project was further along in development.
Its authenticity remains unverified.

I honestly mean it when I say fuck you EA.
Shutting down one of the best video game studios of all time is insane.
Mass Effect means the world to me. Even Dragon Age means a hell of a lot. That a publisher could not make these franchises work is an indictment on their managing.

I was 10 years old when my parents bought my first home console, the Xbox 360.
They were only able to do so because the Xbox 360 Arcade, an entry-level system, cost just £159.99 with games bundled in.
A generation of families do not have the luxury of affordability anymore.
I’ve barely scratched the surface of the #MW4 campaign but…
This might be the best Call of Duty campaign since Black Ops 1?
This is where I’m at with Magic.
Universes Beyond means there’s often Magic sets I have 0 connection with, like The Hobbit or Star Trek.
I’ll show up for every Magic Multiverse set and those rare UB (such as Marvel) that do pull me in.
UB is a poisoned chalice for Magic.
There are a lot of Magic: The Gathering cards coming out these days, and there are a lot of Magic players who think there are too many.
But fans don't need to pay attention to every set, according to Magic game designer Mark Rosewater. bit.ly/4Bp3z95
If you’re a talent and your first reaction to today’s news is “GET ME INTO THE CDL ASAP” you gotta realize how bad that makes you look.
Seen wayyyy too much of it today.
Gears E-Day quickly became one of my most anticipated games of 2026 with all the hours my partner and I put into Horde during the beta.
I have a feeling it might be my game of the year with the campaign being as well-reviewed as it is.

Gee, who would have thought spending years eroding your own console and bringing console-selling exclusives to other platforms would lead to something like this?
Truly the damage done to Xbox in 2023-2026 is tough to come back from.
