Details on Cal football head coach Tosh Lupoi's now official contract ✍️: dailycal.org/sports/msports/…

Cal HC Tosh Lupoi didn't name a starting QB for Saturday's game vs. SMU:
"I'm gonna put the individual that I think is going to be best for us to go win the game coming up this Saturday. So you'll see who's out there, based off of my decision ..."

"Tosh Lupoi had a decision to make, he's sticking with Jackson as the starter tonight, said this will be a QB competition moving forward," ESPN's Lauren Sisler said. "Tosh told us he met privately with Jaron on Sunday, addressed the offense on Monday."

Cal vs. Clemson halftime key takeaways:
- Clemson has almost twice the amount of yards at 179 compared to 93 yards for Cal
- Chase Meyer is short on his first 50+ yard field-goal attempt
- Cal has had 27 total plays in 10:48 minutes
- Cal's defense has 52 tackles
Pretty wild punting technique so far tonight from Clemson's Jack Smith, with the ball flying point down and seemingly moving away from the returner at the last second. Has induced some unconvincing fair catches for the Bears so far.
That 51-yard miss from Chase Meyer would've been a career long by four yards. Bears notably didn't attempt a field goal from 50 plus in 2025, and presumably brought in Towns McGough in the portal for that exact reason.
Pooch punt in 2026 that was then negated by offsides resulting in a new set of downs. You see something new everyday at Databricks Field at California Memorial Stadium.

BREAKING: Cal has sold the naming rights to its football field to data and AI company Databricks.
Databricks, a data and AI platform founded at UC Berkeley, reportedly spent $22.8 million for up to 10 years on the deal, according to Ben Portnoy of FOX Sports.
Cal football will now play home games at “Databricks Field at California Memorial Stadium.”

If you know me you know that I'm a big proponent of special teams, and I had the privilege of writing a long-form feature on Cal's new kicker Towns McGough as part of the @dailycalsports specialist gameday issue.
Make sure you pick up a paper copy on campus!

Cal's kicking question has been answered. It's Auburn transfer Towns McGough on extra points, field goals and kickoffs. Angus Davies is handling the holding and punting as expected.
Great night for Owls alum Trajan Sinatra yesterday, a dagger field goal against EMU and now a @SickosCommittee shoutout!
