Years ago, during my time at @Bellingcat, I created a Google Sheet to catalog online tools and resources. It's been amazing to see how far it has come. A newly revamped version was launched just this week. Explore it yourself here: bellingcat [dot] gitbook [dpt] io/toolkit
Great news! Bellingcat just launched the new Online Investigations Toolkit. In the toolkit you can discover tools for everything from satellite imagery analysis, to social media scraping, transportation tracking or archiving research material. bellingcat.com/resources/202…

1/ In 2020, sanctioned businessman Dan Gertler and his associates launched a series of #SLAPP lawsuits against @PPLAAF, @Global_Witness, and @Haaretz following the “Undermining Sanctions” report and media articles based on information from whistleblowers @KokoGradi and @NavyMalela. The two whistleblowers were sentenced to death in the Congo for revealing the information. fidh.org/en/region/europe-ce…

No, not 💯 Elon. In the U.K. they’re not going round ‘finding people who’ve said something they disagree with and putting them in a f—king cage.’ Some people are being charged for inciting racial hatred and for organising acts of violence. It’s very specific, and it’s the law in most democracies including the US. For example, one person has pleaded guilty today to inciting an attack on a hotel housing asylum seekers: an attack which then took place. Another hotel was set on fire, with people still inside. Freedom carries responsibility: and freedom of speech carries with it the responsibility of each of us to use our words wisely and to be aware of the damage misinformation can cause. To be clear, criminal violence directed towards various communities in the U.K. was perpetrated as a result of malicious and specifically targeted misinformation online. And it’s a relief no-one was killed. Words matter. And yet here you are, running a huge information network, and all you can do is post 💯 over something you choose not to verify for accuracy, not alert people to it’s highly damaging nature. In fact, because of who you are, your 💯 gives it a stamp of approval in the eyes of those who seek validation for their actions. What we say and do has real consequences. That’s because we’re not in a matrix, we’re in real life, and sticking 💯 on a lie doesn’t turn it into truth.

.@HattonLloyd: “Can the Secretary of State set out what steps his Department is taking to throw open the books in British tax havens and implement public registers of beneficial ownership?” @DavidLammy: “It is an issue that I intend to take up with full vigour. We were concerned that parts of the last Government were turning a blind eye to these issues. I hope to come forward with further proposals in the coming weeks.” @AndrewmitchMP: “The Foreign Secretary will get full support from the Opposition in imposing open registers of beneficial ownership on the overseas territories.” 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 hansard.parliament.uk/common… #beneficialownership @OpenOwnership

The extreme Right are very loud rather than very popular. But as long as the media mistake loudness for popularity, the extreme Right will keep getting more airtime than their rivals. That’s not to underestimate the very real frustrations with politics that many of their supporters feel, but it does give us the first very real sign that the march of the Far Right is not as relentless and unstoppable as they would browbeat us into believing. It’ll be hard work and demand full attention, but they CAN be stopped. And that gives me hope.
So, in the end, both France and Britain voted against the far-right. Doesn't mean the threat is gone, but pay attention to the center, center left, green and center right voters who are still the majority in Europe, everywhere except Hungary.

What a pleasure meeting @ElfredahKevin in person and hearing her plans for @ColonistReport. Elfredah completed our eLearming course recently and then, we helped her on a top investigation her team put together. Here's to more collaboration!
Today, I spent some time at the @FinUncovered office in London, discussing the work we do @ColonistReport & @TCRAfrica, our upcoming investigations, & how they can help us hold multinational companies accountable. I am truly grateful to the Finance Uncovered team who are happy to support our work. This will help us as a small & growing media to hold more environmental polluters accountable in different ways.

THREAD: (1) Since @FbdnStories & partners published their #RwandaClassified stories, a growing narrative is that @PaulKagame must have "pissed off some people somewhere big-time" to warrant such an "unprecedented" investigation. This isn't actually the case, & I will explain...
In an unprecedented move, 50 journalists from 17 media outlets in 11 (mostly European) countries, got together on an alleged $2 million joint project to “investigate” just one country – Rwanda. The media, including Der Spiegel (Germany), Le Monde (France), The Guardian (UK), Haaretz (Israel) have just published a series of critical supplements. Kigali - or President Paul Kagame - seems to have pissed off some people somewhere in the world big time. This is likely the first such coordinated global media effort against a single country – particularly an African one - at this scale.
