The episode of Sesame Street where Big Bird got vaccinated may seem too political for you, but wait for the next one where Miss Piggy has to drive two states over to get an abortion.
It’s crazy when you criticize Islam.
I can be as clear as I can be that it’s obviously not “not all Muslims.” But even when I mention the specific groups (ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah the Muslim brotherhood and so on) people always want to bring it back to “what about all the peaceful Muslims?
I’m not talking about them. I absolutely said I wasn’t.
So what about the violent ones? The ones that do it because their religion commands it.
If Scientologists were stabbing people based on Scientology, I would be concerned and ask why.
It’s nuts.
It seems the @hasanthehun and his mom both don’t know how to talk for long periods of time without saying things they don’t actually mean.
I think this guy who calls himself Def Noodles earnestly might not be someone we should take seriously 🤷♂️
People need to really start getting this. It can’t only be excusable when the side you like does it.
Why do I feel so strongly about Hasan Piker’s rise in the Dem party? I started Moms Demand Action the day after the Sandy Hook School shooting in 2012. Simultaneous to the success of the org I started, I watched right wing extremism rise in opposition.
Alex Jones had been running InfoWars and broadcasting conspiracy theories for years. He had a substantial but relatively niche audience. But that changed after the mass shooting, which he used to promote the false claim that the massacre was a hoax or “false flag” operation.
Clips of Jones lying about Sandy Hook circulated widely, including among people who weren't regular InfoWars viewers. His confrontational style made him go viral. Then, InfoWars began selling supplements and other products alongside Jones's political/conspiracy programming. Free Speech Systems, the company behind InfoWars, generated more than $500 million in revenue from 2012–2022.
By 2016, Jones was one of the most recognizable figures in the broader American right-wing media ecosystem.
Extremists on the left are now following the same virulent, highly profitable model:
Normalize extreme rhetoric by repeating inflammatory claims.
Encourage an “us vs. them” worldview by leading audiences to believe “others” are fundamentally bad, dishonest, or threatening.
Turn outrage into engagement.
Foment anger and mistrust via provocative content.
Mobilize an audience against people they criticize, resulting in harassment and harm.
Spread questionable or misleading information at enormous scale.
I don’t believe we should silence, deplatform, or socially destroy demagogues on either side of the political spectrum. Conversations are not the same as campaigning. But if Democrats can condemn harassment, misinformation, and dehumanizing rhetoric from the right, they should call it out it when it comes from demagogues on their own side, too.
The difference between the left and the right (until now) has been our willingness to think independently and recognize right from wrong, rather than blindly defend our own side. If we embrace Piker, we risk sacrificing our common ground, our credibility, and ultimately the base of our own party.
For people who don’t understand “being centrist.”
Right now the left wing is throwing a lot of weight behind Hasan Piker who has said awful things. The people defending him are saying, “he’s joking” “he wasn’t being serious” “he talks a lot you can’t take it all literally” “that was out of context” and so on.
This is what MAGA has been saying about Trump for 10 years. It’s not an analogy. It’s the exact same playbook.
This is what we mean when we say both sides are the same.
But @paleochristcon said 300k the @RealCandaceO asked to up it from 300k to 500k. I’m confused. Are you calling Candace Jewish?
Relax, Lionel. You’re fucking intense.
Unofficially, the number of people turning to @RealCandaceO and questioning Tyler Robinson’s guilt appears to have skyrocketed after Andy the Master Debater’s appearance on @joerogan. Instead of closing the case, he opened a warehouse of cans o' worms. New perspectives, unanswered questions and overlooked inconsistencies are now reaching people who might never have considered them. The attempt to dismiss these issues so lamely and negligently may have accomplished the exact opposite. Mr. Big Shot didn’t extinguish suspicion. He poured gasoline on it. Congratulations.
