After 100 years of experimenting, modern coaching has settled on that even the best of the best athletes can only handle ~2-3 hard workouts a week.
If you're trying to do more than this as an average athlete, you might ask why you think you can handle more than the pros?

If the instructor (aka retired athlete) can look the same as the mid to high level athlete during a drill…
That drill does not have the transfer to the game you think it does ✌🏼 – at Naperville, IL

To outperform, you need serious competitive advantages.
But contrary to what you have been told, most of them don't require talent.
10 competitive advantages that you can start developing today:

Athletes- if you use the coming weeks to focus more on sprinting than on random bodyweight movements, you’ll come out of this lockdown more prepared to play.
Pretty cool pic of the positions a minihurdle run can immediately put you in. This is a top 5 fastest kid on his team. Hopefully over a year or two it sticks a little more??
Really like the idea of bucketed training. Does everybody on a team have the same goals? We started very simple (str vs. spd). If there's no training focus, how do you hold yourself accountable as a coach? Team up top I'd say we did what we set out to. Team on bottom, mehh??
Let's also get rid of the strawmen- All buckets should (to a point) get faster, stronger, jump higher etc. because they're 18-22 yr old developing athletes. But to what magnitude? What's the priority? If everything is important nothing is important.
Big believer of Record, rank, publish! We break our mb throws into “patterning” and “intent”. For Intent throws we are on the gun with the sole focus of doing whatever we can to put up a higher number. Finally got our velo station set up so athletes can run it all themselves!

The Syndrome. Too much unrealized potential. Let's rethink athletic development.

Watching “data” immediately transform intent and output, with a tool as simple as a Just Jump mat, never ceases to amaze me. All roads lead back to “Record, Rank, and Publish” by @pntrack

T+F is always a step ahead S&C. Some of the S&C coaches I respect the most apply what a brilliant track coach talked about 20-30yrs ago (S2L, Wts follow spd, Hi/Lo, VI, spd reserve). I believe @TFConsortium is that next step. In 20-30yrs will fly 10s & feeding 🐱 be the norm?
Spring WBB times. Seems these 1.7m minihurdle runs (at least when timed) did good job hitting 90% MaxV. For coaches trying to get HSR inseason but still worried about soft tissue, MH could be a great method. You get a "safer" sprint with a bit more tech. focus, but still speedy!
