What makes an abstract more likely to get a talk at the world’s largest annual genetics conference?
I analyzed all 15,327 ASHG abstracts 2022-26 to investigate which words, institutions, senior authors are more likely to get a talk.
Browse here: nikbaya.github.io/ashg_abstr…
🏛️ Institutions: Among the 50 institutions with the most first-author abstracts, @Regeneron, @MIT, @MassGenBrigham had the highest talk rates (23–25%, vs 10% overall) across 2022-26.
Future partners include: @CO90s, China Kadoorie, DanRaV, @decodegenetics, @QatarGenome, and Viking Genes. 🇨🇳🇩🇰🇮🇸🇶🇦🏴
BRaVa is led by @astheeggeggs, @konradjk, @ceclindgren and Benjamin Neale from @UniofOxford and @broadinstitute with co-authors from around the world. Thank you to all the biobank participants who make this research possible!
Some individuals defy their polygenic score.
One explanation for their deviation may be a burden of rare variants with large effect. ⏫
Our work (published this week in @AJHGNews!) explores this phenomenon.

And now YOU can explore this phenomenon too!
