Best argument for AI being conscious is that sometimes it gets lazy and half-asses its job.

This is a lack of integrity. principles and loyalty. Vance knew full well that Trump was an idiot the whole time. Yet he shamelessly kissed the ring and defended all of Trump's stupid decisions while praising him as a genius in sickening terms. Just a few months ago everybody who was against the Iran war - including all of us European allies who tried to warn against it - were suckers and losers. Now, it no longer serves Vance's career to be viewed as Trump's wingman, so he abandons ship.
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

We got your back, New York!

Several figures here aren’t federal results or NY-specific. The $472B combines US wide pledges: Micron's $250B is nationwide (NY site $100B) Anthropic's $50B covers TX and NY. The 48% murder drop is from NY's state run GIVE program (28 departments, Jan – May 2026). arkolith.com/news/news-micr… therepublic.com/?p=843020 governor.ny.gov/news/safer-str…

This is the dumbest attempt at pretending to play chess I've ever seen. Half the pieces are hanging, the other half are on squares that don't make sense, and there are four light-squared bishops on the board and no dark-squared bishops.
Your move, New York. Get out there and vote and let’s put crime and corruption in check.

And who the hell is the used car salesman from the 80s who got the idea that "let's put crime and corruption in check" was a good slogan in 2026 anyway?

It’s disappointing how reserves were handled in Planet Zoo 2. It could’ve been a really nice feature. Glad to hear though that there are indie developers who are passionate about fine-scale ecology and want to portray it accurately in their own games: youtu.be/aDQS2Fm897w

No. I wrote a book with no AI, and all I ever had was one single word document, updated thousands of times. Occasionally I saved a different version when I deleted something big, but that's it. And hundreds of PDFs of articles, but those aren't evidence that I wrote anything.
It is not difficult to prove a writer used AI or not. Anyone who has done the difficult work without use of AI will have evidence - scrap books, drafts, notes, mind maps, flowcharts, photos, videos, etc. The fact that little to no effort is used by publications like The Atlantic to verify these and other claims is telling. Anyone who is accused thus can have a goldmine of evidence to produce in a rebuttal.

In Uttarakhand, Bina Devi, 48, of Taruli village, was killed by a leopard while collecting fodder. Her death is not an isolated tragedy—it is part of a deepening human–wildlife conflict crisis dominated by increasing leopard attacks. As we celebrate conservation successes, we cannot ignore those who bear its daily costs—especially women collecting fodder and fuelwood near forests. Conservation must protect both wildlife and people. Uttarakhand needs urgent, concrete action—not another tragic headline. @ukcmo @pushkardhami @moefcc #HumanWildlifeConflict #Uttarakhand

Let's be very clear on this one point. The President mocking a former President in front of the communist leader of China is the most un-American thing an American president has ever done.
"This is the autopen... it's Biden." 🤣 President Trump shows off the legendary Presidential Walk of Fame to President Xi.

A PSA: do NOT download the White House app. It is doing something very weird with the sandbox permissions you give it. Which I’m not sure yet, but is likely against every service term and developer agreement on earth. I downloaded it so you don’t have to onto an air gapped old iPad. It is phoning home, asking for way too much personal data, and attempting to bypass location services permissions. Aside from the propaganda, it’s a security nightmare.

So, after eighteen months of lying on the supermarket floor screaming at Denmark, Donald Trump has been handed the 1951 defence agreement, which already gave America bases and the run of Greenland for as long as NATO exists, and which it was using so enthusiastically that it closed sixteen of its seventeen installations there. The grown-ups have simply wrapped the toy he already owned in shiny new paper, told him it was the biggest present anyone has ever had, and he is now running round the garden showing it to everyone. He will certainly make the history books, although I fear not in the chapter he was hoping for.
This historic deal is a huge win for the United States and the American people. Thanks to President Trump’s vision and leadership, this historic agreement permanently guarantees U.S. security interests in the Arctic at zero cost to the U.S. taxpayer. Greenland will forever be part of the strategic defense area of North America and exclude any adversary from it and the surrounding area. This deal permanently and completely addresses our national security concerns in Greenland.

People keep saying Trump term II is the most corrupt administration ever, so I built a model to find out if it was true. I took the UN's definition of corruption, turned it into eight criteria and 100 points, and scored the leaders history remembers for looting their countries: Marcos, Suharto, Mobutu, Abacha, Obiang, Putin. Then I put every president since Eisenhower on the same scale, both parties, with every exoneration counted right alongside the convictions. Nixon scored 41 and no other American President scored over a 25. Trump's second term scored a 91, which ties him with Suharto and Mobutu and puts him above Marcos and Abacha. So he is not only the most corrupt president in American history. At this pace he finishes his term level with the most corrupt rulers of the last hundred years. PSA: don't come in my comments arguing about the results if you haven't read the full article, because ignorance is a choice. Full article is up now on my Substack (link in bio) and it's free.
