Ah yes, it's definitely not Nigel who looks foolish!
Lefties furious at stunning result for @Nigel_Farage who outmanoeuvred them again by denying them the opportunity to stage stupid stunts at the count. They look extraordinarily foolish today.

Yep. Too much proportionality leads to political hostage taking. It actually empowers the extremists.
Ironically, Israel is living the progressive dream of having 20 political parties that represent every micro-faction, ethnicity and boutique philosophy.

He's implying the US dollar is actually backed by gold?
Jamie Dimon to a country that pulled its gold out of New York: you have three armies within 400 miles, while gold in America is protected by two oceans and the US military “If we have the strongest military in the world and the strongest economy in the world, we will be the preeminent reserve currency. It is those two things.” “I was in a country somewhere in the Middle East, and also in Europe, and the people said, we took our gold out of the vaults in New York City and moved it to our country. You know what I said to him? I said, you have three armies within 400 miles who can come take your gold.” “That’s the real world. You’re not thinking clearly about safety. That gold is protected by the Atlantic, the Pacific, the United States military, the rule of law.” “But if we are not the preeminent military and economy, you will see our reserve status come down.”

Cult lady has opinions about groupthink. Video at 11. Must be 18 or older to watch.
i've been confused about the amount of norm policing that women seem to do. Lots of shaming of ppl doing (imo) harmless stuff. But prob this makes sense if you're easily influenced. If you're truly vulnerable to groupthink, then you'll be incentivized to control what the group thinks. Women are more inclined towards group cohesion and conformity. I think this also explains why women seem to be so (to me) unhinged about sex in the rationalist scene. I am personally very confused by the complaints - just don't do sex if you don't want to???? Nobody is trying to make you come to orgies??? But man of them seem very sensitive around the fact that I am 'normalizing' this form of sex positivity here. But this sensitivity makes sense if they're really afraid of being the weird ones! If the entire culture becomes sex positive and they're the one not-sex-positive person, then they'd be unusual and that would be a hard and scary position to be in. So they are really reactive and aggressive about the perceived spread of stuff they're not into personally, even if there's no actual pressure on them to partake. and im like idk. i feel ya. as a very weird woman i understand that being in a position like mine can be rough

That's because of the fully proportional party list system. That's why I'm deeply skeptical of all these various proportional voting plans people keep proposing. Proportionality leads to political hostage taking. Italy is the same way btw.
All you out there saying America should have a multiparty parliamentary government, I counter with the ungovernable clusterf*** destabilizing the world known as Israel

Because he's an expert on power bottoms?
Trump: The fake news only covered the ass part. They said 'what the hell was Trump doing talking about a man's anatomy? He was talking about his ass.' I studied his ass to see where the power came from

I'm old enough to remember that Special Counsels haven't been especially effective. Bill Barr covered it up just like he did with Iran-Contra and Ghislaine Maxwell is the new Oliver North. Trump will pardon her and that'll be that. Everybody just needs to move on, it's over.
This is smart politics from Democrats: Put all of the Trump-related Epstein accusations together in one digestible document, and demand a Special Counsel investigation. Voters across the political spectrum want slate.com/news-and-politics/…

Bruh, haven't you seen "the discourse"? We gotta check the poll numbers on that first.

Let me guess: Billy's a pedo?
Those of us who have always hated Smashing Pumpkins really feeling vindicated.

This is hilarious because you click through and see people in her own party are avoiding her...
She’s not unimpressive. Americans are too invested in containing China by pushing Taiwan to the front line of their new cold war to listen to her message of peace.

I'm old enough to remember Dick Cheney and Ronald Dumsfeld both going on TV saying we'd be welcomed as liberators and it'd be easy-peasy.
Most of the quotes that people show of the Bush administration promising a quick war in Iraq refer to the initial invasion and toppling of the Hussein regime. They said much less about how the military occupation of the country would go.

The funny thing is everybody is dooming about AI but it's gonna be another pandemic. They're totally ignoring the whole thing and that's how you get another one of those.
The doom posting is completely out of control on this site. Every third post is some blackpill thing. You need to chill out. Nobody knows anything, except for the people who are barred from talking about whatever it is or isn’t. (I did check my preps today tho… 🤷‍♂️)

If the AI companies have piled up as much bad debt as some people are saying then those two things are gonna be the same thing.
I think there's an excellent chance AI skyrockets into being a defining issue for the 2028 election, probably alongside (as always), the economy.

Which is the perfect argument for Congress to wipe the slate clean on the Supreme Court. They can do a hard reset on that shit. Article III only says they gotta set up the court the rest is just made up.
Trump was indicted and scheduled for trial and the Supreme Court responded by making him above the law

Okay, seriously, look at this picture then look at one of his son and try to tell me this dude didn't clone himself.
Jair Bolsonaro thought he would be free tomorrow. Now he will spend the rest of life in jail.

That's the thing I've been saying about Yglesias forever. He is above all a social media personality. He's never had any original ideas. What he's a Jedi master at is trolling the left to keep his name in the discourse or whatever. That's been his schtick since the start.

2/ like MY or want his worldview to win out, you should try to understand his appeal! MY was an undeniably talented OG blogger from the very earliest days and there are clear reasons he is a Substack millionaire. It's just delusional.

2027 might be a real Darwin year. A lot of people think Covid was fake...
There is something really concerning (and disappointing) going on in the US right now. A dangerous and preventable situation. Let me explain. nextstrain.org/avian-flu/h5n… 1/

It shall henceforth be known as "pulling an Eby".
Very much a “the conservatives didn’t win this, the NDP lost it” election. What a fuck up.

So, how does one go about collecting $542 billion in debt if Anthropic goes tits up? Also, I love how the great knowers of the econs have all been like "It's the same business model that built the railroads!" Go ahead and google "Panic of 1873" to see how that turned out.
Translated: Unfavorable Media coverage of AI could expose the fact that Anthropic is in debt by at least $542 billion in non-cancellable cloud infrastructure commitments to Amazon and Google. Anthropic must pay regardless of whether they use the compute or not.

This is truly hilarious coming from the know-it-all "generalist" crowd. Not one scintilla of self awareness. Just like AIs! I literally made that connection early on and started referring to Matt Yglesias as MattGPT. But it didn't catch on so I stopped.
