Close the intersection of West Portal and Ulloa to car traffic and install Transit-Only Lanes

The intersection of West Portal Avenue and Ulloa Streets is dangerously designed and, with its numerous Muni stops and large number of people walking and biking through the area, it should be closed...

Two people were killed in West Portal near the intersection of West Portal Avenue and Ulloa Street — an intersection with multiple Muni bus and train stops — and SFMTA should close the intersection to car traffic while it studies improvements. Statement ➡️docs.google.com/document/d/e…

Ordinary people are capable of extremely aggressive behavior when they drive a motor vehicle. And if something tragic happens they call it an accident.

Replying to @Apple
@Apple Since many people can ride a bike faster than 10 mph — Apple Maps’s default speed — and with the increasing adoption of e-bikes (which can go up to 28 mph without peddling), not offering an option/setting for biking speed is flawed and encourages people to drive. @Tim_Cook – at San Francisco, CA

I dug up previously unpublished concept drawings & models of the proposed Panhandle Freeway and they are ... harrowing. ☹️☹️☹️ The later sketches look like they were designed by the same architect who worked on the Death Star trenches. sfchronicle.com/vault/articl…

Something we don't talk about enough: Just how close city leaders came to turning the Panhandle into an eight-lane freeway, and the absolute legends who put a stop to it. A San Francisco horror story for your weekend 😱⬇️ (Gift link! 🎁) sfchronicle.com/vault/articl…

A freeway through the Panhandle? It almost happened, until these heroes stopped it

In the 1950s and 1960s, an eight-lane freeway almost obliterated most of the Panhandle...

A week ago, a driver turning right at 4th/King killed for a four year old. Today at the vigil, SFMTA said it would take 3 weeks to do a “quick build” to make the intersection safer. That's too long to wait. So we did our own quick build tonight and closed one of the turn lanes
intersection at 4th/King looking Southeast down 4th. there are two right turn lanes onto King, but the inner one has been closed off to cars using flexposts and cones

Thank you to so many people for coming out to grieve the loss of a child & demand City leaders do more to keep all of us safe. Please take 1 minute to send an email at walksf.org/neveragain to echo our call for 3 key actions the City must take NOW to fix deadly intersections.

We can't bear another ghost stroller. We can't bear another ghost bike. It's time to say #NeverAgain and make #SanFrancisco streets safer for everyone. Rally TODAY, 5pm at King/4th. And take one minute to send a letter to city leaders--info for both at: walksf.org/neveragain

On Tuesday, a 4-year-old was killed on the streets on San Francisco. Tragic and preventable deaths like this happen across our city due to dangerous street design. Today, I’m calling for immediate improvements to made and citywide policies to be approved🧵docs.google.com/document/d/e… – at San Francisco, CA

I realized the other day that nowhere are there signs that say this is a bike lane (except small images of bicycles on the ground) but "Fire Lane" is plastered everywhere. This is car infra, not bicycle infra. @SFFDPIO is as bad as @SFMTA_Muni in creating safe streets.

Each year, North American communities spend, per person: 👟 $50 on sidewalks/crosswalks 🚍 $180 on public transit 🚘 $1000 on public roads & traffic 😩 >$2000 on gov't-mandated parking This is why @WalkSF pushes for a safer, more walkable San Francisco. planetizen.com/blogs/124359-…

Even in a tough budget year, more investment in transit would be money well spent.
