Tesla FSD Supervised is not fully compliant with the new UN R171 Series 02 (DCAS) rules that take effect late January 2027. Software changes are required. Here’s exactly what needs to change:

Cybercab is running in Austin, and on Wednesday's Q3 call Tesla said it'll launch in Dallas next month. So what would it take in London? The UK's driverless taxi permits have been live since May under the Automated Vehicles Act. The operator applies to the DVSA, then TfL has six weeks to consent or give written reasons. If TfL doesn't reply, consent is deemed given. For a car with no steering wheel, the bigger step is vehicle approval. Government guidance says the approval rules haven't yet been adapted for cars without manual controls. The rest of the Automated Vehicles Act, including full authorisation, is due in the second half of 2027.

Luxembourg is leaving FSD (Supervised) TAD to the EU 🇱🇺 Its minister says it's driver assistance, Luxembourg wasn't involved in the Dutch approval, and any change must follow EU procedures. The Netherlands and Belgium approved it. The EU vote is December at the earliest.

I predict that in the EU and the UK, kids won't want to drive themselves in less than 10 years. Thoughts? xitter.cf/DVSAgovuk/status/21125…
Taking your driving test? You’ll pass your test if you make: ✅ no serious or dangerous faults (sometimes called ‘majors’) ✅ 15 or fewer driving faults (sometimes called ‘minors’) Find out more and make sure you’re ready for test day: ow.ly/5COx50ZYYlh

🇦🇺 🇳🇿 Cybertruck is officially CANCELLED for Australia and New Zealand. Tesla emailed reservation holders: "After careful consideration, plans to produce Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand have been discontinued." Reservations are being cancelled and payments refunded in full. Some Australians paid their A$150 deposit back in 2019. So is the UK next? Cybertruck is only built in left-hand drive. It has no UK or EU type approval, and the DVSA says no Cybertruck has passed IVA. Tesla UK took £100 reservations from 2019 too. Tesla hasn't said anything about them yet. My thoughts: Australia drives on the left. If that market couldn't justify a right-hand drive Cybertruck, I don't think the UK will get them now.

🇳🇱 Want to try FSD (Supervised) TAD in the Netherlands? Tesla is offering test drives in Utrecht tomorrow. They're at the Tesla Owners Club Grand Prix, at TeamSport's indoor kart track in The Wall, on Saturday 24 Oct from 14:30 to 18:00. You sign up for a test drive on Tesla's event page. Racing in the Grand Prix itself is booked separately through the club. This is where it started in Europe. The RDW approved it on 10 April, the first approval in Europe.

🇨🇳 On Wednesday night's Q3 call, Tesla said they are actively working with regulators in China and has published both its FSD safety report and its unsupervised robotaxi safety report. They pointed to how many crashes happen because drivers aren't alert, and said: "Any regulator who looks at the data would find it very hard to refute." I think regulators in Europe and the UK should be looking at that same data.

Tesla's Robotaxi data: 3.1M miles with no supervisor in the car, 6 cities, 22 Jan to 18 Oct. 0 Robotaxi airbag deployments 0 pedestrians or cyclists hit. 30 of 32 crashes were property damage only. 558K miles in the last week alone Verdict: mostly low-speed bumps so far.

Ever wonder how Tesla Autopilot got approved via restrictive @UNECE regulations? Hint: They used a loophole - Not many people know about this: Guess which country objected? It got approved anyway! Same story for FSD next year?

In case you missed it.. I asked the 🇬🇧 UK VCA for everything it has on Tesla FSD approval: RDW correspondence, approval materials, and applications. ❌ Access denied ❌ Here's why that matters for a UK launch 🇬🇧👇
❌Access Denied❌ New FOI Response from the UK 🇬🇧 Concerning Tesla's FSD (Supervised) approval process. I asked for: Correspondence and meetings with RDW RDW approval material held by VCA Use of RDW as a Technical Service Recognition or reliance analysis Applications and live files / pre-application requests Any request VCA has made to RDW Some data is held, but I get the traditional ACCESS DENIED blocker, and apparently the DFT would be at a MAJOR disadvantage if they answer my questions.

🤖 Where can you ride a Tesla Robotaxi today? 🇺🇸 Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, Tampa Austin now runs from 6 a.m. to midnight. 🇺🇸 California: Requires a safety driver. No driverless or CPUC robotaxi permit yet. 🇬🇧 UK: 👇 🇪🇺 EU: not even supervised FSD EU-wide yet. Which country gets Tesla Robotaxi after the US?

🇪🇸 Spain Update: Waymo has a DGT robotaxi test permit, and plans fully autonomous rides in Madrid in 2027 Tesla has a DGT test permit too, for 30 SAE level 2 cars with 275,471 km logged at the last report. Spanish owners still can't get FSD (Supervised) TAD though because Spain won't adopt the RDW type approval.
¡Hola, Region of Madrid! 🇪🇸 We’re thrilled to announce that we’re coming to Spain, beginning with Madrid. This will be our first region in Spain and second in the European Union. We plan to launch fully autonomous ride-hailing in Madrid in 2027. Sign up for future updates: waymo.com/waymo-in-spain ¡Hola, Comunidad de Madrid!

🇪🇺 The EU maths for Tesla FSD (TAD): To pass EU-wide, it needs 15 of 27 countries AND 65% of the EU population. The 9 that approved it cover only ~14% of EU citizens. Add 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇫🇷 France and 🇮🇹 Italy, and it's still only about 61%, from 12 countries. Add 🇪🇸 Spain, and it clears 65%, but still needs 2 more countries. Who's the real swing vote?

🇺🇸 On Wednesday night's Q3 call, Tesla said the Cybercab and Model Y run the same software, and Tesla will soon be able to release it to customers as part of V15. The extra step is getting customer Model Ys into Tesla's geofences and fleet management. They suspect the first customer cars could join the robotaxi fleet around Q2 2027. I think customer cars driving in Tesla's robotaxi fleet would be the strongest evidence yet for regulators in Europe.

🚨- 🇬🇧 Did Elon just say Europe & UK could get FSD (Supervised) TAD by Q1 2027? And the UK? On yesterday's call, he said Tesla is "hoping for an EU-wide approval" and he "would be surprised if it takes longer than Q1." BUT THEN: "We do anticipate being fully approved throughout Europe and many other countries" Does that include the UK? The timing is interesting. The next version of the UN driver-assistance rule (UNECE R171, Series 02) is expected to take effect around January 2027, and the UK follows UNECE rules too. If Tesla goes that route, I think the UK could follow a similar timeline.
