ALT Molecular machines are built via a beautiful recursive process, as pre-existing machines direct fabrication of their successors in an orderly fashion. Some extract linear instructions stored in DNA, from those others choreograph template creation in mRNA, while others then pattern from templates to bond amino acid parts. Finally, folding and compression by turbulent molecular forces gives wake to galvanized functional machines. Video: The spliceosome is one such tempered machine which choreographs splicing events. In the simplest case, a single splice removes an intron. x{i}x. That intervening instruction set {i} would be destined for exclusion from the eventual RNA template (xx). With what possibilities already from x{i}x{i}x{i}x{i}x! While initial blueprints encoded in DNA carry on as ordered linear instructions, the splicesome extracts more diversity from what lies latent within them – to deploy alternatively spliced RNA templates for the final fabrication phase.
