Hello @NumisChat! Our #numismatic pumpkins aren't looking so fresh now. In fact, for #Halloween2022 we've resurrected the past winners of our team pumpkin carving competition. 🎃 Scary stuff! #Numischat #Coins #Medals #Scary

Some of my favorites from Hunter's Scottish collection @hunterian are the Ducat, 2/3rd & 1/3rd Ducat of James V. They're dated 1540 but were struck up until James's death in 1542. They're the earliest coins to be made from Scottish gold. #NumisChat #Numismatics #ScottishHistory

I'm currently cataloguing the William Hunter collection of Scottish coins @hunterian. This Noble of David II (c.1357) is a highlight. It's Scotland's 1st ever gold #coin, 1 of 4 in existence. I never thought I'd get to hold one #NumisChat #Numismatics #ScottishHistory #Coinage

Romanesque rotunda visible on the left side can be visited in Cieszyn - south of Poland.

#Numischat it is an open secret by now - the #inc2022 is starting this Sunday! We worked tirelessly to prepare an event that will hopefully meet everyone's expectations and we look forward to interesting presentations, posters & roundtables! See you soon under the palm tree ;)

@NumisChat @inc_2022 I don't have photos, but @MuseumsUniStA has a collection of Polish coins that were gifted to it by General Wladyslaw Sikorski, when PM of the Polish Government in Exile, in recognition of the university's good relations with locally based Polish troops

That is true - and there are many places in Warsaw where you can exchange into złotys and back, but Poland is also a very card-friendly country if you prefer not to

It reminds me of this banknote issued by the Ming Dynasty in the late 14th century, the earliest surviving banknote, which includes depictions of strings of Chinese cash #coins on it's obverse. From the British Museum (CIB,EA.260). @NumisChat #NumisChat #Numismatics #Banknotes

The Polish 20 Zloty note features a depiction of a denar of Boleslaw the Brave (992-1025). Boleslaw was the 1st Polish ruler to strike #coins. The logo of @inc_2022 is based upon this #coin. @NumisChat #NumisChat #Numismatics #Banknotes #Poland

There are actually 2 different inscriptions, differing by 1 character. Both coins on the left read 宣和元寶 (clockwise starting from top), both coins on the right read 宣和通寶 (top-bottom-right-left).

Nice one! Here’s another optimistic 20 year promise from Julian II, two years into his three year reign.

The two Petition Crowns (top) and the Reddite Crown (bottom) from the @hunterian. All are struck from the same pair of dies. The Petition Crown on the left is from the Hunter collection and the others are from the Coats collection #NumisChat #Numismatics #Coin #Coins #History

Also, would it really be #NumisChat if I didn't share a Roman coin?😂This is an Antoninianus of Probus with a stunning font featuring on the reverse! The legend reads VOTIS X PROBI AVG ET XX (Vows for the Emperor Probus' tenth and twentieth years) very optimistic😆

Chinese cash coins showcase a wide variety of calligraphic styles. Pictures below are from the Xuanhe era (宣和, AD 1119-1125), in seal script, slender gold script and clerical script. #NumisChat #Numismatics

The Reddite Crown is much rarer than the more well known Petition Crown. This example is from the Coats Collection @hunterian #NumisChat #Numismatics #Coin #Coins #History #Coinage #Silver

The Petition Crown's dies were also used to strike the Reddite Crown, so called for its much simpler edge inscription of: REDDITE QVAE CAESARIS CAESARI (Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's). From @hunterian #NumisChat #Numismatics @NumisChat #Coin #Coins #History

Happy #NumisChat everyone! For todays topic of #fonts, I thought I would share a Styca of Eanbald II, dating from c.800AD! Although I know very little about coinage from this period, I have always appreciated the style and arrangement of the writing! (reference link below!)

Thomas Simon's petition was ultimately unsuccessful. However, his Petition Crown is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful English #coins ever struck. There are c.20 surviving specimens, 2 of which are in the collection of the @hunterian #NumisChat #Numismatics #History

On the edge, Simon pleaded that Charles II accept his design (this coin) for the new English coinage rather than the Roettiers brothers designs that had been selected the previous year. #NumisChat #Numismatics #Coinage #Coins #Coin #Silver #History
