GROWING A GREENER FUTURE, ONE TREE AT A TIME
The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) continues to demonstrate its commitment to community development and environmental sustainability through meaningful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
On Friday, 30 October 2026, PPRA donated 44 fruit trees to its adopted school, Gaborone West Junior Secondary School, and joined the school community in planting them as part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation and community well-being.
The initiative was made possible through contributions from Gaborone Nursery and PPRA employees, whose generosity played a significant role in making the exercise a success.
Speaking at the handover and planting ceremony, PPRA Public Relations and Education Manager, Mr. Charles Keikotlhae, emphasised that the initiative goes beyond donating trees, highlighting its contribution to environmental sustainability, healthy lifestyles, biodiversity and practical learning opportunities for learners.
He further noted that the initiative reflects the importance of meaningful partnerships between public institutions and communities, adding that, just like trees, meaningful development requires nurturing, commitment and collective responsibility.
Mr. Keikotlhae encouraged the school community to take ownership of the donated trees and ensure they are properly cared for, noting that the true success of the initiative will be measured not by the number of trees planted, but by how well they grow and the benefits they provide in the years to come.
The initiative also resonates with Section 40(2)(i) of the Public Procurement Act, 2021, which promotes sustainability in public procurement by taking into consideration economic, environmental and social factors.
Through initiatives such as these, PPRA remains committed to making a positive difference in the communities it serves.
Planting a tree is an act of hope. Together, let us grow a greener, healthier and more sustainable future!

HONOURING THE PAST, BUILDING THE FUTURE
As Botswana marks its 60th Independence Anniversary, PPRA joined the nation in celebrating six decades of resilience, unity, peaceful coexistence and progress.
Delivering remarks during the PPRA Independence Celebration, Mr. Lucas Kennekae took employees on a reflective journey through Botswana’s past, recalling the experiences of earlier generations and the sacrifices that laid the foundation for the Botswana we know today.
He emphasised that nation-building is a collective responsibility and challenged each individual to consider: “What will our contribution be to the Botswana of the next 60 years?”
Under the national theme, “Building Resilience, Driving Prosperity,” Mr. Kennekae highlighted the importance of integrity, innovation, hard work, compassion and excellence in service.
He also encouraged employees to embrace technology and continuously develop new skills to remain relevant in an ever-changing world, noting that even seemingly small actions supporting a colleague, serving a customer with excellence or performing one’s duties with integrity can contribute to building a better Botswana.
He further commended PPRA staff for their recent litter-picking initiative, highlighting it as an example of collective responsibility and commitment to protecting the environment.
As Botswana enters its next chapter, the message was clear: our story is far from complete. We are now the custodians of the next 60 years.

PPRA AND OAG SIGN MOU TO STRENGTHEN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT OVERSIGHT
The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) and the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation in public procurement oversight and promote greater accountability in the management of public resources.
The MOU, signed on 21 September 2026, formalises and strengthens the long-standing relationship between the two institutions, which previously included collaboration on joint audits of Government projects.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, PPRA Chief Executive Officer, Ms Tumelo Motsumi, said the partnership presents an opportunity to combine PPRA’s procurement expertise with the OAG’s auditing capabilities to strengthen procurement governance and improve service delivery to citizens.
Auditor General, Ms Keneilwe Senyarelo, said the partnership reaffirms the shared commitment of the two institutions to safeguarding public resources and strengthening the systems that underpin good governance in Botswana. She emphasised that public procurement sits at the centre of the chain connecting public resources to public services, noting that value for money should encompass not only competitive pricing, but also quality, timely delivery and meeting the needs for which public funds were committed.
The MOU provides for collaboration in key areas including information sharing, joint procurement audits, staff capacity building, knowledge exchange and joint research aimed at identifying procurement risks and strengthening the public procurement system.
The MOU will remain in force for five years, with implementation and relevance reviewed every three years. A Joint Technical Working Committee will coordinate and monitor agreed activities under the partnership.
Both institutions reaffirmed that the ultimate beneficiary of the partnership is the Republic of Botswana, with the collaboration expected to contribute to stronger oversight, improved accountability and better value from public expenditure.
