Final “Who am I?” (As a reader) lesson with S1. With a bit of persuasion, lots of chat and some interesting examples EVERYONE saw themselves as readers and that’s exactly how it should be.

I've written a short story for school or home based on events Audrey Hepburn was involved with during Christmas 1944. Linked to Resist. To be released in print and a video tonight. (Cover by @jamesinnerdale.)

Reading this I have yet again moved from a sense of anger and disbelief that we are yet again having this conversation to an overwhelming sense of sadness but a need to say again why libraries are so important, look again at what they do and who their partners are
“The scale of the savings that libraries need to make and also the impact of inflationary costs means that these aren't savings that can be found down the back of the sofa or trimming little bits here and there. It is a really serious situation." bbc.co.uk/news/business-6362…

Our natural world is in a critical condition. Choreographer @SadeckW and students from Bird College have created a beautiful "human murmuration". This shows how world leaders must work together at #COP15 to restore nature and halt biodiversity loss. urgentconversation.org/?sour…

In 1951, Adelbert Ames created the mind-boggling ‘Ames Window’. It’s so effective that even when you know how it works you can’t break the illusion

It really is time now that @scotgov made the provision of professional librarians in Secondary Schools statutory - bringing this into line with tha national standards for teaching staff. I call on you First Minister to address this matter urgently. @ScotGovFM
As you may know @EastRenCouncil is proposing cutting all school librarians. Here is a link to the Budget Consultation if you wish to have your say on the matter.

Every school should have a library & a librarian to inspire the love of reading. No child should EVER have to go without access to books & to the expert guidance that will help them to read for pleasure, and enjoy all the life-changing benefits of literacy.

On November 12, 1833, there was a meteor shower so intense that it was possible to see up to 100,000 meteors crossing the sky every hour. At the time, many thought it was the end of the world, so much so that it inspired this woodcut by Adolf Vollmy.

I cannot stress enough that young people - especially the more vulnerable ones - desperately need school librarians as a figure who is not a teacher who they can trust and be guided by...it might save a few quid now but the consequences of losing them will be long lasting.
