The most incredible and wonderful thing: to write a book and learn that it helped inspire a fabulous album of Uzbek Disco, Tajik Folktronica, Uyghur Rock & Tatar Jazz from 1980s Soviet Central Asia. It is my album of the year - hands down. Fantastic tunes !

Thank you Prof Frankopan! Your book also inspired this compilation and it’s quoted in the liner notes 🤙🏽

"This album tells you a lot more about the centres of culture within the Soviet Union." A new album of rare grooves from Soviet Central Asia reveals an era when the region was a crucible for musical fusion ⤵️ aje.io/vvtpy4

The Ano Nobo Quartet is named after the legendary Cape Verdean composer and features his 3 sons. I'll play a song from their beautiful album, The Strings of São Domingos. And then we'll hear @kaiakater telling us how a conversation with her dad inspired her album, Grenades.

Frequencies' Sudanese music special re-airs on @CBCMusic at 4 (ET). You’ll hear lots of great stories and music, including songs by Sudanese legends Mohammed Wardi and Al Balabil, who were known as the “Sudanese Supremes."

@OSTLP says its forthcoming compilation, Synthesized Sudan, "is confirmation that the many electronic styles being exported from Africa have a new worthy sibling and rival ~ Jantra’s signature electronic Jaglara from the Fashaga underground." Check out this trippy track!

@OSTLP says Fashaga "is home to one of the most raucous, addictive, and celestial dance musics being made anywhere in Africa." I'll play a track from a forthcoming compilation titled Synthesized Sudan: Astro-Nubian Electronic Jaglara Dance Sounds from the Fashaga Underground.

African dance music is in vogue right now partly due to Ampiano. We often don't hear a lot about dance music from the Horn though. There's a genre based out of the Sudanese Ethiopian border region of Al Fashaga called Jaglara that I think is fire. youtube.com/watch?v=_zYd5YQ9…

When Noori and his Dorpa band released their profound album, Beja Power, on @ostlp, @alsarah5000 played the album over and over, mesmerized by the hypnotic melodies, so clearly of eastern Sudanese origin, rooted in the traditional Beja scales. loom.ly/1rp9lGQ
