A lot of misinformation out there about this. It’s essentially following the same format as public Reddit threads getting Googled.
This only hits public channels in Discoverable Servers (the big 1k+ ones whose admins already opted into “anyone can join, no invite needed”).
Discord’s Privacy Policy has ALWAYS said content there can be seen by people you don’t know.
Only future messages (mid-Dec onward), no usernames or avatars, and you can kill it right now in Settings → Data & Privacy.
Private servers, DMs, and role-locked channels are completely untouched.
Discord is about to put your public messages on Google
Discord will start making messages from Discoverable public servers searchable on Google and other search engines from mid-December.
The feature is ON by default in most regions, but you can opt out:
User Settings → Data & Privacy → turn off “Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages.”
In the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea, it will be OFF by default.
Private servers, DMs and group DMs are not included. Usernames and avatars won’t appear alongside indexed messages.

more clickbait fearmongering slop from dexerto, this does not apply to "public servers" this applies to servers in the Discovery program, y'know... servers that need to meet THESE requirements AND apply for it lol
Discord will soon make public server messages searchable on Google
The feature will be enabled by default for US adults, but users can opt out in their privacy settings
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Missing context: only applies to messages posted after the update, in public channels of discoverable servers.
No private servers or DMs.
Indexed messages won’t show usernames or avatars.
Admins can opt out entire servers; users can opt out their own messages.
