DAY 6
Gears of War: E-Day (2026) XBOX SERIES X/S
It hurts to see how divisive this game is among the fans, especially when some big influencers seem determined to bury it and talk as much crap about it as they can.
Because this game is INSANE.
I can't even imagine what the devs feel.
They built this game from the ground up for this generation, creating the most beautiful game I've ever seen, giving us more of our favourite characters, bringing back the horror vibe, delivering incredible gameplay and sound design, introducing new ideas and mechanics, while still staying true to what made Gears legendary.
And after all that work, seeing people constantly shit on it is honestly sad.
But instead of focusing on that, I'll keep the positive energy, just like my good friend @OhHeyReeality
always does, and focus on the real fans.
I'm really happy I found so many OG Gears fans and got to hear your opinions on these games.
For me, this is GOTY.
2026 is the year I discovered Gears of War, and what a way to end this marathon.
With a bang.
The biggest bang of them all.
My new goal is to become somewhat decent at multiplayer, but damn, dude... you guys are absolute savages. I can't get a single kill.😅
I'll still do Judgment and then play Tactics because so many of you recommended that one.
My Aspho Fields book has arrived too, and I can't wait to devour it.
Then I'll replay some of the games on higher difficulties, because I finished all of them on Normal.

DAY 5
Gears 5 - (2019) XBOX ONE
Man, I thought this was a Series X/S title, but nope... previous gen. Holy shit...
You can tell by my completion time that this game is longer, but it also looks so insanely fucking beautiful that I took around 80 screenshots and kept walking around just to see how good this game looks.
And it's a 2019 game. Yes, that was 7 years ago...
I can't believe this, man. There is no way they can improve on this.
(Then I played E-Day... Like, what is going on, bro? There is no way they can improve on THAT, right?? Right...?)
Anyway, where was I?
Gears 5 has by far the best gameplay so far.
(E-Day coming tomorrow.)
It didn't reach the emotional highs of the OG trilogy, but visually and gameplay wise, this game was one of my favourites to play.
The fact that after I finished my marathon and played through every game, Gears 5 was the one I immediately started playing again says a lot.
I really appreciate the devs trying to do something fresh with this game.
The skiff sections, optional side content and bigger open areas were all great additions. I'm especially grateful that they made most of it optional instead of forcing it on the player to progress through the main story.
I still prefer the previous games when it comes to pacing, but that doesn't mean I didn't like this. It was great.
And that moment when you had to choose between JD and Del? GENIUS!
It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make in a game.
Who did you save?
Oh, and Del, right? Yeah, bro. I love that guy.
So supportive, morally right, has a great heart, always there for you and just an all around great character. The older brother I always wanted. He reminds me of Dom.
Maybe that's why I like Del so much too.

DAY 4
Gears of War 4 XBOX ONE (2016)
New generation, new Gears, and the visual upgrade was just jaw dropping. Again!
The devs are flexing with their talent here.
Gameplay also evolved and added some fantastic additions.
JD is great! I really liked the guy.
(and not just because he got his middle name after Dom)
Kait was cute, and I really enjoyed her company. I knew there was gonna be more about her because she's on the cover of Gears 5.
I was worried about JD the time because I thought they will kill him off so there was a tension in me at every cutscene..
And Del is just DELightful to have around. (See what I did there?) But more on Del in my Gears 5 post.
Marcus with a beard looks even more badass. No wonder the other GoW franchise took inspiration from him and gave Kratos a cool beard too.
It was good to have Marcus around, but I wish we got to enjoy his company more. I understand why they did what they did, though.
They probably wanted to give the new cast a chance to shine, and that's hard to do when Marcus Fenix is in the room.
I loved this one too, and it immediately made me want to boot up Gears 5. So I did.
Thank God I didn't have to wait years for a new one.

DAY 3
Gears of War 3 - XBOX 360 (2011)
This is where I stopped loving this franchise and became obsessed with it.
I literally played for hours and finished the entire campaign in 2 sittings... who even does that..?
That says a lot about me, but more importantly, it shows how incredible this game is. It hooked me and never let me go.
Crazy to think they managed such a huge jump in visuals on the same hardware. It’s still a 360 game, which blows my mind.
The budget was around 5 times bigger than the previous game, and it shows in every aspect. Looks incredible, with so many epic cinematic set pieces.
Money well spent.
Man, Dom and his storyline are still on my mind.
Absolutely loved every moment.
What a way to close a trilogy.

Gears of War 2 - XBOX 360 (2008)
Big improvements over the first game.
The story and characters grew much closer to me.
This is the game that really moved something in me.
I never thought this franchise would hit me this hard emotionally, but here we are. Thank God, and @JamieMoranUK
Dom is the heart of this game and I assume he's everyone else's favourite character too.
I jumped into the 3rd game faster than Marcus reloads his gun (and I had no idea what was waiting for me there holy shit..)

DAY 1
Gears of War - XBOX 360 (2006)
20 year old game that still holds up well even today.
I can't even imagine how big this game was in 2006..
Gameplay loop is simple but does the job perfectly.
There is always something in the game that keeps it fresh, so it never gets repetative or boring.
Driving, stay in the light, kill the strong enemy while the air support still lasts, etc.
Story and characters hooked me and made me want to jump in to the second game. So I did that right away!
