BREAKING: Flávio Bolsonaro declares himself Brazil's "true elected president," alleging widespread electoral fraud & announcing he will lead the opposition from the United States.
While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected.
Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions.
Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent.
But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models?
We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem.

Reminder:
The Coolidge Effect is the observation that males have greater sexual responsiveness to and lower sexual refractory periods with multiple females.
The name comes from an old joke:
President Coolidge and his wife were being separately toured around a government farm. Mrs. Coolidge was brought to the chicken yard. She noticed that a rooster was having a lot of sex. She asked the farmhand how often he had sex and the farmhand said "Dozens of times each and every day." Mrs. Coolidge remarked "Tell that to the President when he comes by."
Upon being told about this rooster's prodigious copulation, the President asked, "Same hen every time?"
"Oh, no, Mr. President, a different hen every time."
"Tell that to Mrs. Coolidge."

“They came prepared. They had the addresses of town halls. They had addresses of Jewish shop owners.
In a street in Marseille, all businesses owned by Jews were set on fire. Businesses run by Muslims weren’t”

I want the Bondi terrorist Naveed Akram executed by firing squad and I want the Australian government to livestream it.
But in Australia they swear the problem is far right neo-nazi groups.
BREAKING:
It turns out that the Omani co-pilot was already a radicalized Islamist when he studied in Australia in 2015-2017 and that Australian intelligence agencies kept a file on him.
Australian counterterrorism authorities are now investigating Hamam al-Hammami, who tried to crash a Tel Aviv-bound flight, amid reports that he visited radical mosques and radical Islamist websites while studying in Melbourne.
Two sources briefed on the investigation said al-Hammami previously studied at a university in Melbourne.
Local reports identify it as RMIT University.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has explicitly linked the attack to Islamist radicalization, saying al-Hammami had undergone "Islamist radical indoctrination" and that investigators had uncovered information pointing to Islamist tendencies.
On the other hand, mainstream media outlets in the West labeled the radical Islamist terror attack as a "scuffle" or
"spat" between the Captain and the co-pilot.
Western states keep downplaying the threat of Islamism as the authorities in Europe don’t want to deal with the huge problem of hate preachers who radicalize young men in their mosques.

Amazing.
These researchers found that there's a spike in Bitcoin activity around the time foreign aid money goes out.
Somewhere between 2 and 6 cents of every dollar of World Bank foreign aid disbursements got siphoned off into crypto wallets:
Imagine if you could eliminate the cost of a step in the supply chain by declaring it illegal.
This imbecile is one of the more explicit demonstrations of why Australia is cooked.
What consequences could possibly occur from distorting the natural way a service is paid for?
Replying to @AlboMP
Right now, it’s costing Australians $1.6 billion every year.
From tomorrow, those card surcharges will be banned.

Are Mensa members smart?
Yes, but not as smart as their standards suggest
The reason is that their scores aren't comparable to those of normal people: they score much higher than expected based on their ability!
Mensans are obsessed with games, invalidating their test results:

The British Empire around 1833
Was the seizure of the Malvinas Islands an isolated event? Look at what Britain was doing around the world:
🇮🇳 1803 – Maratha territories — war and territorial conquest
🇿🇦 1806 – Cape Colony — invaded and captured
🇦🇷 1806 – Buenos Aires — invaded and captured; subsequently retaken by local forces
🇩🇰 1807 – Copenhagen — attacked; Danish fleet seized
🇺🇾 1807 – Montevideo — invaded and captured
🇦🇷 1807 – Buenos Aires — invaded again; the second British attempt was defeated and the British forces surrendered.
🇲🇶 1809 – Martinique — invaded and captured
🇬🇵 1810 – Guadeloupe — invaded and captured
🇷🇪 1810 – Réunion — invaded and captured
🇲🇺 1810 – Mauritius — invaded and captured
🇮🇩 1811 – Java — invaded and occupied
🇺🇸 1812–15 – United States — invaded; Washington captured and burned
🇳🇵 1814–16 – Nepal — invaded; territory ceded
🇮🇳 1817–18 – Maratha territories — conquered; British control massively expanded
🇦🇪 1819 – Ras Al Khaimah — attacked and captured
🇲🇲 1824–26 – Burma — invaded; territories ceded
🇬🇶 1827–34 – Fernando Po — British occupation/presence
🇦🇷 1833 – Malvinas Islands — Argentinians were removed and British administration established
🇮🇳 1834 – Coorg — invaded and annexed
🇿🇦 1834–35 – Xhosa territory — invaded; Queen Adelaide Province proclaimed
🇾🇪 1839 – Aden — attacked and captured
🇦🇫 1839 – Afghanistan — invaded; Kabul occupied
🇨🇳 1839 – China — First Opium War begins
And we are supposed to believe that what happened in the South Atlantic in 1833 should be understood completely outside this context?
Britain was one of the world’s dominant imperial powers and was repeatedly using military force to acquire, occupy or control territory during this period.
1833 wasn’t happening in a vacuum. It was happening in the age of the British Empire.

I made a version of this chart where the width of each column is the population, so the area is the total consumption.
America: 4-5% of the population, ~20% of the consumption!
America is very rich!
Ever wonder why the spectrum forms? Amazing visual explanation!

Today, we’re announcing Ternary Bonsai 2 27B.
Based on Qwen3.8 27B, Bonsai 2 27B is 9x smaller than its full-precision counterpart while retaining 98.2% of its aggregate benchmark performance.
Two months after the first Bonsai 27B release, the biggest change is quality. The footprint remains 5.9 GB, but the gap to full precision has narrowed materially, with particularly strong gains in agentic coding, multimodal reasoning, and long-horizon tool use.
Ternary Bonsai 2 27B is available today under Apache 2.0.

Scandinavia has family benefits that would blow your mind.
Yet the fertility in Nordic countries is lower than in the United States, which offers far less.

Hi. 😊 Swedish dude here.
When our children get sick, we have 60 paid days per year to stay home with them.
Per parent.
They're separate from my 25 paid vacation days.
Meaning I don't have to use my own paid sick leave.
If I'm a single parent: 120 days.
If my child has a chronic illness: 120 days
If my child is hospitalized: unlimited days.
These days reset every January.
By law. every year until child is 18.
