What did you miss in China’s AI last week?
Apple Intelligence finally cleared a major hurdle in China, ByteDance created a dedicated frontier AI safety team, and Beijing proposed tighter controls on the export of advanced AI technologies.
Time for last week’s recap 👇

China also proposed export controls covering 23 AI technologies, including advanced models, agents and computing clusters.
The draft rules focus on transfers of sensitive underlying technology, while normal access through APIs, apps, websites and SaaS would generally remain possible. Publicly available open-source technology would also largely stay outside the restrictions.
China spent years trying to catch up in frontier AI.
Now it is also thinking about which parts of that technology it wants to keep closer to home.
5/5
A few things stood out this week:
🚩 Chinese models are moving deeper into mainstream consumer products.
🚩 Frontier AI safety is becoming a real organizational function inside Chinese labs.、
🚩 China is starting to treat advanced AI as a strategic technology worth controlling, not just exporting.
That’s it for this week.
Follow @OpenBuildxyz for more updates on China’s AI and innovation ecosystem.
See you next Monday.
The next developer interface may be no interface at all.
For years, developers learned how to operate software: editors, terminals, dashboards, shortcuts, tabs everywhere.
Now that relationship is starting to flip. Instead of learning where every button lives, you increasingly just describe what you want done and let the system figure out which tools to use. GitHub recently called this shift “ambient intelligence” — moving from operating tools to expressing intent. The GitHub Blog
🚩1. The interface is moving into the background.
You may not need to open five tools if an agent can read the repo, run commands, inspect failures, and move between them for you. The tools are still there; you just interact with them less directly.
2🚩. Knowing what you want becomes more important.
When clicking and typing become cheaper, vague thinking becomes more expensive. “Make this better” still leaves a lot of room for the system to make the wrong decision.
🚩3. Developers may spend less time operating software.
That doesn’t necessarily mean less technical work. It could mean more time defining constraints, checking outcomes, and deciding what should happen next.
We spent decades designing better interfaces for developers.
The funny part is that AI may make some of those interfaces disappear.
⚡ Monad Blitz V3 Shanghai is in full swing!
Great to bring builders together again in Shanghai! From Vibe Coding to AI Agents, teams are turning fresh ideas into working products, building, testing, and iterating together.

Builder’s Pick this week: context-mode 👀
An open-source context optimization tool for AI coding agents.
Instead of dumping every file read, shell command, GitHub issue, or MCP result directly into the model’s context window, context-mode keeps the raw output outside the conversation and only brings back what the agent actually needs.
It also keeps a searchable local record of session activity, so long-running coding sessions can recover relevant context without reloading everything again. The project currently supports tools including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot and other agent environments.
What makes it interesting is that it tackles a very unglamorous problem that becomes obvious once you actually use coding agents for a while:
the agent may be getting smarter, but the context window still fills up.

Shenzhen Recap|72 Hours at a City Pub: 18 Teams Shipped Demos for Colosseum 🍻 @solana @Solana_zh
Oct 9–11, we ran a 3-day Mini Hacker House at Tiaohai Pub next to Nantou Ancient City, Shenzhen. Nearly 40 hackers, 18 teams — all pushing their ideas to demo-ready, submission-ready state before the @colosseum Global Hackathon Crypto World's Fair deadline.
⏰ Reminder: Colosseum global submission closes Oct 13, 15:00 HKT. Shenzhen was just the sprint — crossing the official submission line is the real finish.
Shoutout to every hacker who brought their laptop, pitched their idea, and coded until 2am.
The 4-city October tour — Singapore, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Shanghai — has wrapped. See you on the Colosseum leaderboard.

Day 1|Nantou City Walk, Team Formation, Late-Night English Talk
Hackers checked in through the afternoon, some starting with a stroll through Nantou Ancient City. At 3pm we walked through Colosseum rules, the prize pool, and two critical deadlines (on-site Oct 11 14:00 / official Oct 13 15:00 HKT). Then came the real event: self-intros, project intros, on-site team formation — 1–2 minutes each to say who you are, what you're building, where you're at, and who you need.
At 9pm, Helius took the stage for Privacy on Solana with Helius.
Day 2|1-on-1 Mentorship, Vibe Coding, Product Class, Code Until 2am
Morning: Mike @Mikkke_crypto sat down with every team for face-to-face mentorship — product direction, technical choices, the works. 3pm: Tiny Bear presented Vibe Coding at Solana, walking through the AI-assisted pipeline: natural language → Solana program → frontend. Teams who arrived with only a PPT had a clickable prototype by that night.
4pm: Mikhail covered three topics back-to-back: how to choose what to build / how to pitch better / how to get your first users — the product & growth class most engineering teams miss.
After 5pm, keyboards went until 2am.
Day 3|Talks, Then Demo Day
Morning: Gan Xiaolong presented From Preconfirmation to Finality: A New Timeline for Solana Transaction "Finality". At 2pm sharp, 18 teams took the stage, 5 minutes each. Judges came from the Solana ecosystem and VCs. Then the group photo outside the pub.

What did you miss in China’s AI last week?
DeepSeek moved toward another massive funding round, Manus raised fresh capital after returning to independence, and China told the tech sector to keep building AI — without turning it into another investment bubble.
Time for last week’s recap 👇
🤖 Made with AI
4/5
China also sent a different signal this week: keep investing in AI, but avoid another speculative tech bubble.
New national guidelines call for more support for AI research, infrastructure and industrial deployment — including humanoid robots and intelligent products — while explicitly warning against “swarm-like”
investment and emphasizing AI safety and risk controls.
Build more, but build something real.
5/5
A few things stood out this week:
🚩 Capital is concentrating around a smaller group of serious AI players.
🚩 Agent companies are becoming businesses in their own right.
🚩 China still wants aggressive AI adoption, but is starting to care much more about where the money goes.
That’s it for this week.
Follow @OpenBuildxyz for more updates on China’s AI and innovation ecosystem.
See you next Monday.
