We mourn the passing of Patrick Stewart, who inspired countless individuals at NASA (and beyond) to boldly go where no one has gone before.
Midterms will be interesting times.
white house no longer just ignoring russian hybrid activity against nato… now asking european allies to play nice w/ putin too.
what a shift in foreign policy priorities.

ALT A person is speaking at a podium with a microphone. The podium has a clear panel, and there is greenery in the background. The article headline is "Pentagon tells Europeans to cool their rhetoric on Russia, sources say," and it mentions authors: Antoni Slodkowski, Gram Slattery, and Andrius Sytas. The date is October 30, 2026.
A hundred years from now, @realDonaldTrump will be remembered as the C-list version of Neville Chamberlin.
This interview, however, will me remembered as defending notice of our age - and @ZelenskyyUa as the Churchill of our times. youtube.com/watch?v=5x9dkYIR…

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Patrick Stewart on Trump (2017): “You might say to me, well, you’re not an American, what has it got to do with you? The fact is when America sneezes, the world catches a cold. America I think is on the edge of a very bad flu infection and it’s because of the man who’s in the White House”

I think the world of @lisakirbie and am happy to promote her voice. To paraphrase another deep thinker - diverse perspectives check blind spots we, the n our narrow perspective, would otherwise miss.
I don’t understand how that’s a bad thing.
Just out of curiosity how do all these @GOP candidates against transgender (goes against nature, I guess) feel about trans humanism, which all their biggest donors are for?
A bit like #onpoli playing #loweryourcosts ads every 15 minutes on the radio. Or the buck a beer thing.
These folk think we are dumb (with a “b”) and gullible.
Show them how wrong they are.
Obama tonight on his Cheesecake Factory line: "They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke. The White House even called the Secretary of the Treasury. This is the man who is in charge of the economy. The person who's supposed to be figuring out how to make your life more affordable. The guy who's supposed to be figuring out how to lower inflation. And reduce interest rates. They told him he should hold a press conference in front of the Cheesecake Factory."

In a world where Buster Moon is considered heroic, delusion as strategy should come as no surprise.

If he keeps saying things like that, it will become impossible for Canadians to pay for their own drinks in any bar in the democratic world.

normally a good thing. for netanyahu, high arab turnout is an ‘emergency’
(…and an excuse to claim election was stolen, of course)

Leaving that aside, average quarterly inflows in the last six quarters, permanent and non-permanent combined, are lower, in absolute terms, than their average in the Harper years: 67,000 vs 73,000.

I’d say he was friends with dictators and former communist enforcers, and spent a lot of time talking about men’s asses, but that’s @JDVance ‘S boss.
And Vance has traded his future prospects for loyalty to that boss. And the people see it.
