Opera and fun don’t always get invited to the same party.
People imagine serious faces and gold curtains.
Opera UCT’s Die Fledermaus is the opposite: it’s fizzy, flirty and gloriously extra.

Lost Donizetti Opera Brought Back to Life in South Africa
--The company, Opera Co-Pro, acquired the production rights to Dalinda and chose South Africa’s Opera UCT at the University of Cape Town to perform the first fully staged production of Dalinda on Sept. 4, 2024, according to OperaWire.
The Italian director William Cisco said, “I knew the reputation of the school for producing singers, but I didn’t expect this. The first time I heard them singing in Italian, I almost cried.” Molly Dzangare, a student from Zimbabwe in her final year, spoke of the excitement, stress, and intimidation of performing the title role.
