It’s been >15 years since the launch of Bitcoin, and the market is more focused than ever on real products solving real problems for real people. Real-world adoption has early signs of success and will grow exponentially in the coming years.
In the past years since Aptos mainnet launch in 2022, we’ve built best-in-class infrastructure - the most scalable, fastest, and cost-effective blockchain ever created. We created products like Aptos Keyless to enable smooth Internet adoption and Geomi to accelerate builders. We made powerful strategic partnerships with builders to drive scale and adoption.
During these same years, we also rushed and messed up the airdrop. We focused on the wrong metrics, like TVL. Alongside many incredibly valuable strategic partnerships, we also made some bad business arrangements that didn’t deliver value to the ecosystem we were expecting. We have learned much from these mistakes, made significant leadership changes and have done a lot of clean up this year. Difficult, out of the spotlight hard work, but necessary. These necessary changes laid the groundwork and strengthened our ability to execute much more in the future.
My passion has always been the mission: unlocking financial freedom and financial equality. Historically, we’ve been conditioned to think of global equality in terms of the legal system and human rights. It’s not enough. Perhaps, the 1776 Declaration of Independence says it best that we are all “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” True global equality requires inclusive access to the world’s financial systems, from capital markets and money movement to wealth-management tools and stable stores of value. More powerful financial tools for everyone.
It can be odd to think of fair and equitable global trading as a societal accomplishment, but the opportunities are not equal today. IPOs and private funding have limited access. Many other investment strategies have limited access, especially globally. A global trading engine can be built on a highly-customized and decentralized technology stack. It can be accessible to all with all the rules and operations codified. It can offer fair features not found in any centralized market today - such as protection against front-running, sandwich attacks, and hidden costs. Trading tools like delta-neutral strategies can be available for anyone to deploy and understand. No more hidden agendas and a level playing field. Ultimately, everyone having the same access to financial markets, global currencies, investment opportunities, and more is going to change this world for the better. We’ll look back at this time as the path to how we unlocked financial freedom.
Our thesis-driven bets toward our mission are as follows:
* Equitable and advanced global markets: Decibel, incubated by Aptos Labs, is the first fully decentralized exchange that will match the Binance/Coinbase speed and ease of use. At the same time, Decibel is innovating with new trading primitives, user protections, assets, and markets. With a successful Testnet underway, Decibel is accelerating toward a Q1 Mainnet and will iterate on the product quickly.
* Next-gen cloud, data & AI: Shelby is the first hot decentralized storage protocol. It solves the data lifecycle challenge (i.e., hot, warm, cold) for AI use cases, creator use cases, and enterprise cloud infrastructure. Not only cheaper due to reduced egress fees when compared to traditional cloud infra, Shelby is cloud failure resistant, programmable, yet with full creator control.
* Aptos Internet expansion with Namespaces: Namespaces offers turnkey, tailor-made blockchain infrastructure built on Aptos’ proven tech stack for any bring any enterprise or institution to bring its users into crypto and expand the Aptos ecosystem, similar to the way the Internet was built. The new Archon architecture fully enables fast and reliable connectivity for namespaces internally and across them.
While it is still early for these products and protocols, the response from investors, partners, and the community has been strong and validating. Building the product vision, not just a tech narrative, is what sets Aptos apart. Our strategy is to deliver utility that drives organic revenue in every product and sustains the mission. This is a significant change to the previous years in how we have operated and we’ve been realigning and rebuilding for nearly a year now. The Aptos Foundation is working with us on how to best allocate resources to support these changes.
The market continues to evolve rapidly and APT isn’t reflecting the fundamentals, ecosystem growth or progress in the mission. I continue to hold every token that was granted to me as a co-founder because I believe it's the right thing to do to serve this mission. Not many founders can say that more than 3 years post token launch. Mission not yet accomplished. And while we’ve done a lot of learning from and cleaning up past mistakes, we will look at every option to ensure our mission will be sustainable and successful.
Looking back, we’ve learned from our mistakes, rebuilt, aligned, and are now executing on thesis-driven bets toward the mission. Our world-class team has never been as focused and effective as it is today. The world needs financial freedom and equality more than ever, especially in a world where AI is creating more information asymmetry and inequality. Let’s level the playing field for the future generations of humanity.

i've had 10+ calls this month with S-tier crypto projects looking to build stronger marketing and community flywheels -- putting some of the suggestions publicly here on twitter
10 rules for crypto marketing & community: a systems approach
1) stop posting ads.
if your main twitter constantly talks about your product, you are posting ads. people hate ads. when you open youtube to watch a specific video, you cannot wait to skip the ad that pops up. same with crypto twitter. if you consistently post ads, don't be surprised when people don't like your brand or aren't engaging
2) you are competing with influencers and entertaining content on twitter, not with other protocols.
when most people open CT, they are checking to see what Cobie posted, or what memes are created about the ETH ETF, or whatever the trend is that day -- entertainment they enjoy. you are competing in the same attention economy as these folks, not just against your project's competitors
3) your marketing & community strategy should take a systems approach.
it is much more accurate to view marketing and community through the lens of a complex system with various inputs and outputs rather than one-off segmented areas. there are flows between discord, telegram, twitter, etc that all impact each other. optimizing for good flow between the areas will yield much better results than tackling each one individually. community and marketing are intertwined. if you silo them, both will be less effective. they are a tag team -- make sure the system allows them to make each other stronger
4) invest heavily in community.
if you do not invest heavily in community, do not be surprised if they are not invested in your project. if the community member experience stinks, there are many other crypto communities for them to hang out and be active in. if you do not enjoy spending time in your own community i promise you no one else will either. make the experience awesome
5) post and interact with top community content from your main account and from the founders' accounts.
there are 2 main reasons: 1) their content is very likely better than your own teams' stuff anyway, so marketing becomes a process of curating top community content instead of trying to create top down memes which rarely hit, and 2) it makes the community know you value high quality contributions. how often can a community member create something and have this massive company shout out how good it is? it's a cool feeling and most projects aren't willing to do it. interact with your community publicly
6) association > knowledge.
Red Bull doesn't post a single picture of Red Bull cans on their instagram. it is all cool people doing awesome things with the Red Bull logo slapped on somewhere. they make people like the brand, and then down the line this leads to positive effects for their company. if their instagram was just posting about Red Bull's formula vs. competitors they would have been dead a long time ago. lead with great associations and let people learn about the product on their own once they want to
7) do not blindly copy and paste someone else's strategy.
a good marketing & community strategy is built from first principles using the product stage, vertical, target audience, current reputation, etc as inputs. what is the correct strategy for someone else's project is very likely not the exact right strategy for your project. you can take inspiration from other approaches that you like, but highly recommend building your own system from scratch
8) quality > quantity.
automated questing is not a good strategy. using platforms where people claim rewards for "follow, like, RT" may seem like a cheap way to boost engagement, but it completely dilutes real people who would organically engage, and also looks like trash when you have 7.2k likes, 7.2k RTs, and 10k views. do not sacrifice real people who will be in your community for months or years just to get bot engagement -- you will never create sustainable flywheels this way
9) do things that don't scale.
early on you are lucky if you have 5-20 people that care about your community at all. make sure you are showing gratitude and appreciate for anything and everything they do that make the community stronger. don't worry about how that won't work if your community grows to 50,000 people -- if the team isn't having 1:1 interactions with these folks, you'll never get there anyway
10) a community is made up of REAL people with REAL lives that have other things to do.
can't believe i have to add this one but it comes up often. your community is not some number on a sheet that shows traction -- they are as real as you, the person reading this. create your system for them and heavily degrade any "bot" type interactions since it dilutes the quality of experience for your real members. having 100 real people who care about the community and your project puts you above 99% of other crypto projects. treat your fellow community members with respect if you hope to have any amount of respect in their minds
----
marketing & community are more accurately described and understood through a systems approach. it is much more of a task of creativity and engineering than simply twitter game. they are important things to get right and shouldn't be left up to chance. anyways, if this gets less than 100 likes i'll probably never talk about this again but if it does well maybe will post more stuff like this moving forward. ty

the hardest part about being a male founder..
in my experience is finding a girlfriend / partner that understands the short term gains that we are forgoing and the long-term optimization game that we are playing.
most women expect to have most dates paid for, their vacations covered and their partner to have the time and emotional bandwidth to support them. somebody they see as a reliable provider. this is completely understandable.
but as founders, every dollar saved is additional runway for the company. we budget down to the cent because our life’s work depends on it. every 100-hour work week slightly increases the odds of success. at this stage of life, we’re both cash-poor and time-poor — betting everything on the hope that one day, it all works out. that one day, we’ll be sitting on generational wealth — the kind most men only dream about.
even for women who understand that they might be investing in their man long-term , it’s hard not to compare. their friends are dating guys with high-paying tech jobs, who work from 10 to 3 and can afford to give them a luxury experience now, not later. optimizing for the short term is human nature — it’s hard to fight against.
to all the girlfriends out there dating early-stage founders — you’re the real ones.
and to all my fellow founders: may you find your person while you still have nothing. Because that’s the only time you’ll know she’s with you for who you are, not what you have.

Men, listen to me closely
The most important decision you will make (especially as a founder) is who you choose to marry
Women will either save you or destroy you
Last month, I had countless sleepless nights
Constantly stressed and unsure if things would work out
Not long ago, I was barely holding it together between the chaos of work, family, and life
On the verge of tears, my girlfriend sat me down, hugged me, kissed me on the forehead, and told me everything would be okay
That’s sometimes all a man needs
Someone who will unconditionally believe in you even when you are at a point where you barely believe in yourself
One week later, we closed our high-ticket first client, 2x our lifetime MRR
Life sucks sometimes
But once you find a woman who will support you through anything…
It changes everything
dating founders is hard. really fking hard.
you come home to a messy apartment, to someone who’s still glued to their laptop. you’re exhausted from your own job, but you pour what’s left of you into his dream. you hold space for their stress, and stay calm when it all feels too heavy. you rejoice in their success, and you support them in their lows. and you hold optimism for them when no one else can.
this is the quiet resilience of a partner.
but for all the sleepless nights, the tears, the chaos, you get a man who is ambitious, magnetic, and genuinely believes he can change the world. and somehow, that makes you believe it too.
and if that's not the sexiest thing in the whole damn world, i don't know what is.

Men have been crashing out over how “easy” women have it in attention markets for hundreds of years. The backlash to @mint0themax post has been so interesting to follow...
The loudest “women have it easier they just post a selfie” exclamations come often from the consumers of those selfies, who fuel the very loop they claim to despise.
I think back to “vanity” style paintings made to condemn the shallowness of female beauty: “You painted a woman because you enjoyed looking at her, you put a mirror in her hand and you called it Vanity, thus morally condemning the woman who you had depicted for your own pleasure.” (Paraphrasing John Berger here)
I ABSOLUTELY agree that women have it easier on social media btw, and in an industry like web3 that is hyper charged by abysmal male to female ratio. I also think if I were a man, I would be deeply frustrated by seeing a low effort selfie outperform content I have worked hard to create. But what these posts miss is that this popularity for women is usually taxed in being perceived as less competent and capable, and having to work overtime to be taken seriously - regardless of what type of pictures you post. Unfairly so imho: In a social space, using your strengths to your advantage is not cheating, but a reasonable strategy.
TLDR don’t hate the player hate the game.
Just tested the new @Merkle_Trade mobile app and… wow.
It’s so smooth it almost made me forget I was risking my life savings. 🫠
Let’s talk about my first trading experience on mobile
Btw @yeptos thanks for making this cool app 😙
Step 2️⃣: Feeling brave.
Opened a 150x short on $APT.
Collateral: $1.89
Position value: $283.
My liquidation price was literally a sneeze away. 🤧
Step 3️⃣: The miracle.
Closed the trade +9.46% 🔥
Is this luck or skill? (It’s definitely luck.)
Anyway, this app just made high-stakes trading feel like a game.
And I’m 100% here for it. 🎮
