As a disabled person this is an insult. Putting Batgirl in glasses and having her in the Clocktower doesn't make her Oracle. Oracle is one of the only disabled superheroes DC have ever created and after a decade of ableist writing this is a slap in the face to disabled readers.

@cliffchiang I had reserved my copy of Lonely City (which is amazing) months ago, reading today made me very emotional seeing Babs as a disabled women using her wheelchair again was a beautiful suprise and is such a huge comfort for me. Thank you for that small detail of kindness

Also this sounds very fun, and I like that it leans into the idea that Babs is an experienced older hero which is something I definitely miss about her too.

This got me emotional cause you have to go out of your way to say your version of Oracle is the disabled hero and not the able bodied ableist version thats appeared for like 2 years now. Like its so sad as a disabled person that one of the few heroes we had is now able bodied.
Disabled people deserve to see heroes like them in the comics they read and it's so far beyond imaginable that able bodied people take some sick sense of pride and joy in standing up for a company and its employees who write stories that continually erase disabled people.
So yeah go ahead and lie to yourself and say disabled people are being irrational or hateful or are ten years too late all it shows is that you haven't paid attenion to disabled people speaking out against DC editors, writers and artists ableism for a decade.
One thing is clear from the current situation able bodied people are not going to change , they'll still speak over disabled people, they'll still mock disabled people they'll support ableist storylines cause they're happiness comes before solidarity with the disabled community.
For the last ten years disabled people have raised their voices against DC's ableism and guess what each time we're shut out by able bodied comics fans putting their own comfort with ableism above disabled presentation.
It happened in 2016 with the Bensons and again in 2018 and again in 2020 starting to notice a pattern disabled people speak up consistently and each time able bodied punch down at disabled people and speak over us thinking theysomehow know better.
Back in 2011 the disabled community spoke out against DC and Gail Simone and guess what happened? Able bodied people drowned disabled voices out and accepted that ableist writing and that happened again and again it happened in 2014 with Fletcher/Stewart ,
Some people have gone so far to call disabled people cripples/ crippled as if that's something acceptable and not beyond cruel. What's happening now happened before and will happen again cause able bodied people consistently speak over disabled people thinking they know better
In the last few days able bodied people have shown they know nothing of the disabled community at all. The fact the people defending the ableism present in Babs story talk about disabled people needing or wanting to be fixed is an able bodied person view of disabled people.
Anyway able bodied people purposefully misinterpreting disabled people to defend DC's ableism in nothing new y'all have being doing that consistently since 2011 while also speaking over and drowning out actual disabled voices.
Able bodied people really do think disabled people need to be fixed the really think life isn't worth living if you're not like them. There are generations of disabled people who are happy loving people, they only focus on what makes us different and see it as something shameful.
Oh yeah and yes its disabled pride/awareness month because the disability community celebrate ourselves. And Oracle was already an inspiration to the disabled community for twenty years before DC erased that to shove her back into the Batgirl mantle in 2011.
I use a wheelchair I'm an physically disabled person and it was more inspiring to read about a woman using wheelchair then about a woman who has a magic chip making her walk there is nothing wrong with being disabled we don't need to be fixed only able bodied think that way.
It's disability awareness/pride month and DC unveiled more ableist BS about Barbara Gordon. Like stories written in the 90s treat disabled people with more respect than modern comics it's shameful. Like its beyond cruel.
I think it mainly being talked about cause a lot of disabled people can't believe during disabled pride month DC doubled down on their disabled erasure and ableism and try to show it off as something positive or something disabled people should accept.

As a wheelchair user this is a huge insult this does nothing for the disabled community with representation. This Babs is essentially an able bodied woman with a magic chip in her spine. This back brace is a slap in the face to disabled people who DC have insulted for 10 years.
So continue to erase Barbara's disability and continue to have an able bodied woman steal the Oracle name one of the few disabled heroes ever in DC only for Babs to go back to being Batgirl 6 months later. Its faster to just say you hate disabled people then do all this BS.

I understand, hopefully you could send feedback about erasing disabled heroes not being appreciated by disabled comic fans . I really loved the way you had her be Oracle in Injustice you were the only writer that respected her disability during early years of new52 stuff. 💚💚💚
