Big news! Our US v. Pharma: Fighting to Protect Medicare Negotiation campaign has been named a finalist for the Anthem Awards! Medicare drug price negotiation is a historic step toward lowering prescription drug prices, but the policy can be complex and difficult to connect with audiences beyond Medicare beneficiaries. That’s why we partnered with digital creators to bring this issue to life through authentic storytelling and make it more accessible and relevant to younger and more diverse audiences. Selected from more than 2,500 projects, we’re proud to see this work recognized alongside other campaigns driving social impact. Now, we need your help! Vote for P4AD for the Anthem Community Voice Award and help us celebrate this work: celebrate.anthemawards.com/P… Voting is open through October 29. Don’t forget to verify your email after voting to make sure your vote counts! Thank you for helping us keep up the fight for lower prescription drug prices! #AnthemAwards @anthemawards

It's time we rein in Big Pharma's abuse of the patent system. That’s why my colleagues should join my bill with @SenAmyKlobuchar and @SenHawleyPress so we can get more affordable generics on the market and save patients money at the pharmacy counter.
NEW VIDEO: We just released a new video explaining one of the most important — and least talked about — drivers of high drug prices: patent abuse. The ETHIC Act would close the loopholes drug companies exploit to block cheaper generics. Watch, share, and urge Congress to act: tinyurl.com/e3kr3vv2

Saddened to learn of the passing of David Mitchell, founder of @P4AD_, in his 15-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer. A tireless advocate for reining in Big Pharma monopoly prices, I frequently consulted him. David, who relied on constant innovation to treat his ever-evolving cancer, recognized that American taxpayers are the true angel investors in innovation. His leadership will be sorely missed as we continue the struggle to deliver new, affordable treatments and cures.

We agree PBMs drive up costs. But that's not the whole story. Drug companies abuse the patent system to block generics & biosimilars- often filing 100+ patents on one drug- keeping prices high for patients. We need to fix both to truly lower drug prices. patientspushforcompetition.o…
Blaming patents for high drug prices is a convenient distraction. The real anti-competitive force? PBMs -- opaque middlemen that restrict access and distort costs. As the @FTC and @TheJusticeDept heard last week, they’re the ones distorting competition.

“I go to pick up my Rybelsus and it’s $425” Novo Nordisk, the drug company behind the popular GLP-1 drug Rybelsus, is gaming the patent system to monopolize the semaglutide market. The company’s abusive patenting schemes generate billions in revenue, much of which is used to boost its stock price and enrich its shareholders.

Eliquis is a blood thinner that is marketed by Bristol Myers Squibb. It carries a list price of over $7,000 per year. We investigated the patenting strategies around Eliquis. Here's what we found: 📄43 patent applications have been filed 📄22 patents have been granted These granted patents provide 34.1 years of patent protection, approximately 1.75X the 20-year limit intended by the U.S. patent system. In Europe, Bristol Myers Squibb’s market monopoly on Eliquis ended in 2022. In the U.S., thanks to additional patents, Bristol Myers Squibb is expected to extend its market monopoly until at least 2028—over 8 years after Eliquis’s primary patent expired and over 6 years later than Europe.
