What makes food functional?
It is not enough to add an ingredient that sounds “healthy”. The amount, form, purpose, safety and real role in the everyday diet all matter.
Within PATHFOOD, we explore this through selenium-enriched food.
Does a healthy product have to be complicated?
Not always. Food innovation is not only about new technologies or laboratory solutions. Sometimes it means better composition, good raw materials, greater functionality and a product that truly fits the everyday diet.
Do you have an idea related to functional food, science or innovation?
Join the PATHFOOD Science Hackathon and work online on a concept with real-world potential.
48 hours, mentor support, prizes and a certificate of participation.

In autumn, we often look at food differently.
Lower temperatures, shorter days and a return to work or school routines influence what we choose more often: warm meals, seasonal products and food that gives a greater sense of satiety.

September often feels like a second beginning of the year.
We return to work, school, shopping and meal planning. It is a good moment for change, but not necessarily for a revolution.
Everyday diet often starts with small choices that can be repeated.

Food for work has to work in practice.
It is not only about composition, but also transport, storage, smell, convenience and whether a meal can be eaten during a short break.
In PATHFOOD, we analyse food through the lens of real consumer needs.
September means returning to work, school and meals “to go”.
A lunchbox shows that food choices depend not only on knowledge, but also on time, convenience, product availability and everyday organisation.
In PATHFOOD, we analyse food also in the practical context of its use.

What does an “enriched product” really mean?
Not just a label claim.
It requires the right ingredient, the right amount, safety, quality and clear communication.
In PATHFOOD, we explore this through selenium-enriched functional food.
